Another early morning and another great episode.

There have also been some books about the alternate universe which presented a more interesting Star Trek.

Ah, those were the great days of Trek. The emphasis was on the human drama, not the special effects.
The difficult we do right away...
...the impossible takes slightly longer.

Indeed. Plus, because you were drawn into that human drama you often miss the frailty of the sets and the lack of those special effects. Great stuff that still stands up well today.

I suppose it's too late to remind JJ Abrams of this.
He can keep his nonsense summer blockbuster franchise to himself, as far as I'm concerned, even though it's making more money than all previous ST movies combined.

A week ago or less there was a link on here about a doctor's diagnosis of Bruce Willis's character in Die Hard. They should do one on a new Star Trek movie. I've only seen the first, and I remember being put off by the continual over-the-top dynamics. (Now to upvote Mark's comment - I agree wholeheartedly!)

You should watch the trailer for the second movie[^].

The one where they sky-dived onto that little platform? If so, I was hoping they'd bounce. High and far. I'm no longer impressed by such effects where they stretch the bounds of reality so far. I'll watch movies like "History of Violence" instead. Or "Shoot 'Em Up". If it is going to be so far over the top at least I can be laughing

That's how Me and Mrs. Wife feel about Dr Who - the old ones had to rely on plots and personalities, the new ones on short attention spans and special effect.

No, see that is fantasy: it isn't real whereas, of course, Star Trek is real.
Put it another way: Star Wars is for children, Star Trek is for the grown ups.

Hi All,
It's now the awkward bit of Friday aka "Please don't ring phone or Email me at this time"... everything has got to a natural stopping point (stuff ordered hasn't yet turned up so that will wait until Monday for completion), all code committed. Too early to slink off...what to do, what to do!

Well, actually I have two. Both of them did not write anything at all, one worked and learned more than I expected and the other one fulfilled my requirements to the letter while doing nothing like what it was intended for.
