Why should the future be worse than the present?
That's usually not how progress works..

Why not? Progress is not linear. Civilizations rise and fall. The fact that something is more technologically advanced does not mean it will win.

But this isn't just happening automatically or through inaction. Someone somewhere made the conscious choice to make the future worse on purpose.

I'm actually working on an exit strategy.
I'd rather leave programming than work with the HTML stack.
I need to last about 40 more months.

I definitely don't want to do HTML.
You are not afraid to admit it

Take it from someone who is in exactly the same position, move to WPF and clickonce. I have found that you can cut and past your views from SL to WPF with a minimum of fiddling. I moved a small app (14 views) in less than a week and that was the first one so there was a little research involved.
I've been dipped into the current HTML/JS/CSS development stack and it still feels like being dipped in sh*t. Having said that I can't see any viable option to MVC/SP development if you need a web interface, you have no idea how thoroughly pissed off I am with MS.
As MS has mooted 2020 as the retirement horizon you may be Ok with 40 months, I am looking at the same time frame and I'll walk away from the whole banking industry!

Be afraid, very afraid. Just don't admit it!

I've got to admit that I was afraid you'd say that.
One day I aspire to having a signature.

I am afraid of your fear of admittance of admitting that you are not afraid to admit that admitting makes you afraid, but I shan't admit it since I am too afraid!!!
I am also afraid of long sentences.

Do not fear the not if you are not afraid of not knowing a baht is not a knot worth in dollars, but not knowing a gnat is not a mosquito is like not knowing a knot is not a not but can be a frayed knot or a knight in the night not a knot of the wind knot although not a night in a knot unless not a night but a knight might not be a knot in disguise. So do not knot the knight in the night upon which the knot is not a knight in the night or not a knot.

I am afraid to admit that you admitted that you were afraid admitting this

Well, that's an easy one. As far as wives are concerned, we are NEVER right! Per definition!

Logical solution: Don't get married. Then it does not matter, but it's most fun to let them notice that you are just being polite when you agree.
