They were very nasty people. The reason that they couldn't fit into English society (which may not have been perfect, but was pretty egalitarian) was that they believed that their religious beliefs made them vastly superior not only to everyone else but also to the law.
Of course, there's an element of that in all religions, but these guys made Khomeini look tame.
As I say, having to struggle to survive in an uncivilised, savage new land -- i.e. learning that God didn't make the world and everything in it revolve around them -- must have done their attitude the world of good.
So much so that these days we even let a few Americans back into England, from time to time.

I hear you.
BTW, doesn't England and the U.S. have a dual citizenship policy set up?

I'm American and I don't know anything special about today. (Whoops now yesterday, Nov. 9) We celebrate Thanksgiving on the third week in November on a Thursday so the date isn't specific. I'm sure I was told why we did that, but it didn't make sense then, so I don't remember now what it was. We are thankful the colonists from England demonstrated extreme incompetence in living here and weren't killed by Indians and instead were helped to survive. We later tried to demonstrate our thankfulness by trying to wipe out the Indians who were named that by Columbus whose navigation skills obviously put him in India. Custer comes to mind on the continuing chronicles of competence of Americans in getting things done.

Yeah... uh... Of course... 11/9 is really... um... important? Wait, what's on 11/9? Are you mixing up date formats again?

A while back there was a conversation like this:
Daughter II : Do you like horses Daddy?
Nagy Vilmos: They're lovely. But you have to be careful not to overcook them.
D II: ...
