If you are referring to the Devonian I mentioned try 'Clarin darwn t'road chopsin' or to put it in English 'Walking down the road talking' hence the need for subtitles...

Ah, yes - I believe that particular physician got his instruction at the same fine medical school as this one:

Let's say I own an android phone.
Let's say I use WhatsApp and that colleagues at work also use it.
Let's say I've received messages at 5 o'clock in the morning as those colleagues are simply |o| (insert any harsh word to replace the tie fighter).
I know there is the "blocking mode" which should allow me to define a time lapse in which I allow the phone to make noise only if a call comes in. Which is great as in case of emergency anyone can call me at 5 o'clock in the morning.
But it looks like WhatsApp just doesn't follow the rules and it sounds even that blocking mode is activated.
Have any of you solved that somehow?
And yes, I was sleeping at 5 o'clock, thought the phone was waking me up and not before being inside the shower I noticed that was a Whatsapp and not the alarm clock... so yeah, I'd love to avoid that.
PS: and of course the normal thing would be to tell everyone not to disturb at certain hours but they are...
I've seen SEER, SILENCE, TIMERIFFIC... and none of them looks to work when Android 4.4.x is on the phone.
Thank you all.

You never call

12ga 00 bucks either at the phone or at the caller. Check local laws before attempting the latter.

Oh, that's easy...
Go into your app listing, scroll over until you find WhatsApp... Then hit the menu key, pick "Uninstall"...
I mean, that's my solution... If an app misbehaves, I just annihilate it...

One trick I read about is to download an empty wave file and use that as the ringtone for certain users. WhatsApp allows you to use each person's ringtone.

Amen.
My phone goes off when I go to bed, and stays off until I decide I need it again.
There is NO ONE on this planet I need to text/chat with at 5 am.
If it's not broken, fix it until it is

Turn the ringer off.
I mean, really. If someone is having an emergency, why would they call you at some ungodly hour of the night, rather than 911?
And if it's not worthy of a 911, then it's not a real emergency, right?
BTW, do you not have a land line in case of actually needing to be notified that someone has a real emergency, called 911, and now a loved one is in the hospital?

Years ago my cousin had a bad motorbike/scooter accident... he flew some meters to land his head against a bench that was on the side of the road (he was wearing those half head helmets).
The girlfriend (well, she was not the legal girlfriend if you understand me) that was with him at the crash moment also flew away but she was luckier and was able to use her phone to call the ambulances and then used his phone to call any contact in his phone book. It was me who was called at 2 o'clock in the night...
Thanks to that I woke up his parents and picked them up at their house to take them to the hospital.
After an helicopter flight to the hospital and two weeks in coma (a head bone broke and went inside his brain) he woke up like nothing had happened... the worst of that the suffering for the family, the hairstyle he has now (like a tennis ball in one side) and the fact that both "girlfriends" met at the hospital... Yes, he is a kind of superhero (two girldfriends and so...).
This is why I don't like to shut the ringer off on my phone... just in case something strange happens during nights.
Oh, and the landline... I have it as I need it for the ADSL but the only calls I'm getting there are from telephone operators asking me to change companies so this one is always disconnected.
Anyway, I've been looking at on{x} and IFTTT which could help me to "script" the solution directly... Now I just need some time...

I stand corrected.
Amazing story, and I'm glad your cousin is OK!

Yes, the most impressive thing was the shard (google translation here, I mean a small nail shaped broken head bone) that went two centimeters inside his brain...
We were really worried but you know... at the end doctors made a great job he is OK and has not lost all his female attraction powers so I think everything is perfect...

Like Marc said, Turn the ringer off. I have installed Tasker on my phone and programmed it to always shut the ringer between 23 and 7.

Ignore the smart alecks, the surprising thing would be if nobody made any wisecracks.
If you pull up Whatsapp (or any app, in fact) from Settings - Apps, there's an option to disable notifications, have you tried that?
(Personally, I turn my data off when I go to sleep, although the ringer is still on. And this is only for one phone, whose number very few people have. The "regular" phones are on silent when we go to sleep.)
Cheers,
