That is very good to know.
I may hold off my purchase until Windows 10 is released.

I'm not following the logic. They're saying they'll all be upgraded, so you'll get Windows 10?!?

I want to buy a book on the new OS.
I don't care to learn 8.1 and then turn around and learn 10.

Mrs. Wife has just called (stressed out) and asked me to leave work early. The annual neighborhood 'progressive' dinner is tonight and our house (with her acceptance) is hosting the desserts. Personally, I'd rather go to the dentist than have a bunch of boring retirees and busy bodies invading my personal space for the evening...herself has just called again asking when I am leaving. Time to go now! Cheers!

I'll dress up as a Texan and pretend to be your distant relative from the States.
I bet I could ensure that your neighbors never talk to you again, much less invite you to a dinner.

Good advice. I have been in Texas long enough to know what you mean. I would adopt the idea for the next occasion, but waving around with two revolvers is a criminal offense here.

gin, vodka, rum, ....
I have found that given sufficient quantities, I can even have a serious discussion with my mother in law (certified idiot) and not worry a dang thing what I say.
I might have to deal with my bride later...

Ahh!..a civilized drinker! I still prefer straight whiskey with a splash of water for taste! One of those before the social, and all was well. I met a lot of people, but can't remember a single name! Thank goodness it's done!

Well, not all three at the same time!
I'd love to be able to partake of some nice Kentucky bourbon now and then, but it has much more smell than vodka, gin and rum in that order. My inlaws don't drink, so they tend to get annoyed if it's obvious
However, Christmas is coming and on that day, I get to build a roaring fire in the fireplace, make my self a whiskey based drink and sit down to watch A Christmas Story. If I time it right, I will be feeling just fine when Ralphie says, "Oh fudge......"

So I was just about to read a book on some new technology.
The introduction is like "Let's have some fun with these new features!" and then I started wondering. How many people actually have a "fun" job?
A lawyer or judge? Let's have some fun with these new laws! Get people in or out of jail with the new constitution 2.0!
Perhaps a doctor... See more of your patients with these new X-ray tools, absolute fun guaranteed!
Fire fighter? These new fire hoses guarantee hours of fun!
Driver? Drive your vehicle even better with these new steering wheels, traffic jams have never been so much fun!
I'm not sure, but I don't think many professional literature uses the word "fun"...

The fact is most jobs that don't have a creative element to them are not inherently fun. The monotony will get to anyone. Being fresh and learning and keeping things new keeps us young in spirit.
Of course, what you consider fun can change as you mature. But whatever the pursuit, newness and creative gains in it is what keeps driving that "fun" ball home.

Yeah, I guess the creative part is what makes it fun.

The Professor said: "well, it's pretty good, actually, I have the summer off, now that I have tenure, and I have a nice group of slaves ... oops, I mean graduate students ... to write my articles."
The Lawyer said: "it's not bad doing criminal law, I mean you get to see the "dark side" of life up close without being arrested."
The Doctor said: "I never lose my sense of fascination with the advances in medical technology, and I am passionate about continuing my own professional education, which I find very meaningful."
Then, the Programmers spoke: "I have fun with code."
And the sound of ice tinkling in glasses stopped, and people averted their eyes, and there was a silence.

Nice. Not that a programmer would ever get invited to that sort of soirée, but nice.
