Nah! It was easy-peasy. In fact the first AST of my (not so short) life. OFC I have had an AST in my head before, but strangely, work never required it, always found shortcuts to avoid em.

We are having a game of secret Santa for the Christmas celebration and need to play the role of secret Santa to a random person.
What gift should I choose when I don't know the person very well?

Something neutral: chocolates, perhaps, fancy soaps - something your wouldn't normally buy for yourself so there is a good chance they wouldn't buy for themselves either.
Or ... you could use this as an opportunity to find out something about them, and select a gift based on what you find out?
Which would you rather get? Neutral and (probably) boring, or something that shows the giver took some time and put some thought into it?

Giving soaps can also be a hidden hint, to finally shower again or whatever...

One that most "I cycle to work" colleagues often miss completely ...
I've worked with a few that you really don't want to share a cubicle with.

What is the budget ? An iPhone 14 is always good to have.

Yep. You could sell it before you opened the box.

From an Indian perspective, i feel a self help book like "Think like a Monk" or "Ikigai", etc. will be both pocket-friendly and effective.

A good idea in theory, but how many people truly read self help books, much less put what they learn into practice?

My idea is : At least if such a book is on the shelf, that person will read it maybe after 10 years, when he/she is is some kind of distress, at time of need. And will start making sense of all that is in it.
Books are perhaps the most long lasting of all types of gifts. I have books at home gifted to my forefathers more than 100 years ago, and i still refer to them.

I took a look at those & a lot of them are very funny, but because this one is so great (Zspecial shirt[^]) I purchased it for myself & all of my friends.

Curtains if the recipient is a boy. Knife sharpener for a girl. At least this is what my little girl were planning to do for the school's secret Santa before I vetoed it.
