How very dare you! I was up and out of the house for 7:30 and went to Mass at Notre Dame before returning in time for tea and meddles!

Congratulations, Mike!
Come to think of it, January 1, 2015 marks an anniversary of sorts for me - I quit smoking 24 years ago.

Congrats to you also.
When I quit drinking I also quit smoking and chasing fat girls.

I never started chasing fat girls.
I always felt there was too much risk I might catch 'em...
Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay...

I found that if I kept properly medicated I couldn't run very fast so it made the odds better.

Happy New Year, Roger.
"least useful" ? Well, perhaps keep in mind what Milton said in the final line of his Sonnet on His Blindness:
"They also serve who only stand, and wait."
«A man will be imprisoned in a room with a door that's unlocked and opens inwards ... as long as it does not occur to him to pull rather than push» Wittgenstein

Least useful? I think not; it seems to me you mainly post when you have something interesting to say. So your entertaining of us is most useful, please keep it up. And of course, a Happy New Year to you and yours.

So this year ends, did you make good on your 2014 promises? I did mange to fulfill some, but alas I couldn't make good on the promise regarding posting a few articles on CP (I got them almost ready, so hopefully for January they'll be posted!).
Anyway, happy new year to everyone. How are you celebrating, how did you celebrate? In my town, we're celebrating with ash, since Don Goyo decided to explode[^] an hour ago, so the town's being covered with ash.
Anyhow, I'm cooking a mushroom ragú fettuccine and my wife's making a spinach salad for the dinner. My relatives will bring pork drown in pasilla chili and wine, but since I don't eat pork and I can't stand the chili (of any type), well, I'm sticking with my ragú and the salad.
P.S. A cousin of mine turned 16 years old in October, and I'm planning to get him drunk. So I'm also bringing a fruit-and-sugar-cane based beverage (called punch, but I guess its preparation differs from the American version), and I have smuggled a small bottle of transparent pulque, which I plan to slip into his beverage...

Here, we'd call that a felony, and you'd spend at least 10 years in prison. Just sayin' ...

Alex: Fix it? How you gonna fix this?
Skipper: Grit, spit and a whole lotta duct tape.

Let's say that the person who's job it is to push the button that drops the ball in central park falls asleep at the switch and forgets to push the button? Did he or did he not drop the ball?
I say he definitely dropped the ball and didn't drop the ball but he didn't drop the ball and therefore dropped the ball.
Happy new year.

Well, since the ball drops in Times Square, not Central Park, I'd say even if he does drop the ball, he still dropped the ball... And if he doesn't drop the ball, he didn't really drop the ball after all.

If the ball drops and no one pushes the button is it really a new year? Hmmmm

You definitely dropped the ball with this question.

There is no Times Square.

There will be again tomorrow... Right now, it's buried under a pile of tourists.
