This whole Nicholas Cage thing gives med the distinct feeling of Deja Moo (the feeling that I've seen that bullshit before)...

LOL
I tried to find some movie on IMDB that had a title like "Wales" or "Welsh...", but I failed miserably. The other link was the closest I could come up with...

Hi all,
On Friday night I arrived from a work travel of 3 weeks.
On Monday I tried to start my laptop and it looks like it doesn't want to start.
I'll have to unplug the HDD and try to recover my work from there .
And now the fun part: I need a new laptop...
I want a Lenovo, that's something I've got clear after having fujitsu siemens, IBM (years ago), and some HP, the one that have given me the best result has been a T41p from IBM.
So now... what would you choose between:
A)
Lenovo ThinkPad T440s 20AQ Ultrabook
Core i7 4600U / 2.1 GHz.
Windows 7 Pro 64-bit / Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit.
12 GB RAM.
512 GB SSD.
No DVD nor optic drive.
14" 1920 x 1080 ( Full HD ).
Intel HD Graphics 4400.
802.11ac.
4G.
B)
Lenovo ThinkPad T450s 20BX Ultrabook
Core i7 5600U / 2.6 GHz.
Windows 7 Pro 64-bit / Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit.
8 GB RAM.
256 GB SSD TCG Opal Encryption 2.
No DVD nor optic drive.
14" 1920 x 1080 ( Full HD ).
Intel HD Graphics 5500.
802.11ac.
4G.
I can change the RAM amount if needed, any other change must be done separately by buying the component myself.
Which one would you choose?
My main tasks will be developing software using Visual Studio, different editors and using some virtual machines to develop for older systems.
What I've seen:
- the touchpad on the 450 seems better (as it has physical buttons on top for the mini joystick to work with).
- the processor in the 450 is better.
- I'm worried about the HDD space, but I guess I could go everywhere with a small external hdd if needed (and of course a small optical drive even I don't remember the last time I've used one)...
- the hdd on the 450 seems to allow encryption while the one in the 440 not.
Given all this... would you choose the 450 adding more RAM to it?
Thank you in advance!

Why are they so cheap with the RAM? I will not use anything under 16 GB anymore. Here at work I may already get into problems with 8 GB when I open up two instances of Visual Studio and debug on both at once.

I can increase the RAM amount, no issues here.

Good. You can never have enough memory. take all you can get.
And this is one of my most important points: A good GPU. I love programming on the GPU too much and always see to it that I have a good one in my computers. If you are not interested in such things, the Intel graphics will do.

I don't need a better GPU, I'm mostly programming against robots, software based CNC and PLC...
And moreover do you remember that I do have a brother in law? just joking here... I don't plan to play neither to start developing 3D nor using the GPU processors to make extensive and parallel calculations...
Thank you for your recommendations!

Graphics were my first love, back when my first computer had great black and white graphics at 64*32 or 64*64 pixel

Faster processor and an SSD for the system?
No contest.

Both of them have SSD, the 440 512GB and the 450 256GB...
But yes, the 450 has a better CPU.

I've gotta change my reading glasses. I didn't see the SSD on the 440.

No worries!
At my first search on the shop list I did not even saw both computers there...
Both of them have more or less the same specs the only difference in favor of the 440 is the HDD... I think I'll try to go for the 450 (now it's time to see if they have it in stock or not...).
