Aah, now I see. And it broadly confirms the figures in the World Factbook. Pity it stops at 2011.

Holy crap at Rwanda... 42 at the top, the #2 at that time, Sierra Leone, is only at 25 and the second highest total (Rwanda being the highest) seems to be Niger at 26. Rwanda just skyrockets and then comes back.
They made a good movie about it too, Hotel Rwanda[^] with Don Cheadle.

People in the countries where alcohol is illegal live longer? Not that shocking really.
Not worth it though!

No, it just seems longer

Yes, but I think the figures cannot be directly compared. Suppose you have a country with a large proportion of old people: The life expectancy may be high but the death rate will also be high. Then there is also the issue of death by violence. How do you account for that in life expectancy? This is a significant factor in some countries in Africa and elsewhere.

Wait until the NSA publishes their Factbook!

Wait for the NSA's book? I don't have that many years to live.

At face value, does this not look like a *rubbish* figure?
Death rate anywhere in the world is 100 percent. Everyone born has to die, sooner or later

Missed the joke icon, didn't you?

The joke icon is indeed in my the earlier message at the end.
But, seriously, is it a joke?

What I mean is that it should be compared with the birth rate for the country for that year.
Meaning, for every 100 births during the year, how many have died during the same year. What is the population increase / decrease percentage during the year? What are the immigration levels? All these must be presented in total, and not just a single chart called "Death Rate". No wonder it is called "Crude Death Rate", shows how crude it is.

Yep. Loads of fun.
And the US has a lower death rate than the European countries, except for Ireland, Albania, Cyprus, Andorra, Liechtenstein, Iceland, Jersey and Switzerland.
lol

Keep in mind that, while most European countries have excellent life expectancy, they also have very low birth rates and hence a higher proportion of older people. This implies that they could have long life expectancy and an unexpected high death rate at the same time. One should not look at death rate in isolation, but also consider other factors that may influence it.

If I ever get one of these $%#$! overseas jobs, I'll see what I can do about the birthrate over there.

So, I need to get a database moved from a server soon to be retired to a server that is supported by the database team... and I'm directed to a checklist page that needs to be sent to the integration team...

Your problem is that you have a database team.
No database team, no problem. Look for DB's that don't need DBA's.

One of my favourite movies ever. Was fun when I was a child and is still fun today
Here's the scene in English[^]
Of course I used to watch it in Dutch.
Another very good one is Asterix And Cleopatra.
Especially liked the bath/lion scene[^]

I've read the books in English, Italian, and Dutch, and they're just as funny in each language -- superb translation.
I never took to the movies, though, neither cartoon nor real-life -- probably because the books were too much to live up to.
