If you can change the CSS used as with firefo you can disable it and look at the page as if it was written in plain HTML - there the buttons exist. Then you click "reply" and revert to the CSS view. Faster than source-inspecting!

You also can open console and run (after each page refresh of course) this line:
$('.tablet-only').show();

Alex: Fix it? How you gonna fix this?
Skipper: Grit, spit and a whole lotta duct tape.

It does seem to be browser dependent. IE works.
The question is if that's a bug or not.

You nasty person!
You made me open IE and try using it to find out!
And of course it didn't work there either, so you were just trying to force people to use that steaming pile of monkey droppings....

Well, that's odd, it still works for me also after cleaning the cache.

Nor me, but I followed den2k88's advice and found it in the source view. Very weird.

Ha! A tip[^] from Agent_007, in bugs and suggestions. I just typed the following into my browser console:

Add a calendar control to your ASP.NET web form.
It's as easy as this:
<asp:Calendar ID="Calendar1" runat="server"></asp:Calendar>
The HTML it renders is appalling, atrocious, arduous, acrimomious
Hey, how did the CP editor render that? Weird!!!
The code looks like:
<table id="Calendar1" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" title="Calendar" style="border-width:1px;border-style:solid;border-collapse:collapse;">
<tr><td colspan="7" style="background-color:Silver;"><table cellspacing="0" style="width:100%;border-collapse:collapse;">
<tr><td style="width:15%;"><a href="javascript:__doPostBack('Calendar1','V5538')" style="color:Black" title="Go to the previous month"><</a></td><td align="center" style="width:70%;">April 2015</td><td align="right" style="width:15%;"><a href="javascript:__doPostBack('Calendar1','V5599')" style="color:Black" title="Go to the next month">></a></td></tr>

Hell's bells! And that puts a large nail in the coffin of any doubts I ever had as to completely dissing Web Forms forever.

Yes, isn't that generated code so ugly? It is terrible.
It looks like someone completely knew to web dev wrote it or something.
Just terrible in my opinion.

Not somebody new, but somebody who was told, "Ignore the HTML, nobody need ever see or work with it."

Yes, you are probably correct. "Ah, no one will see that anyways."

|

I've seen similar terrible HTML from reputable third party controls as well, like DevExpress. Even in their so-called MVC library, which was just a whitewash over old style web forms horrors.

Maybe this is the ultimate Litmus test.
Tens of thousands of developers blindly use (and write) this kind of stuff.
If you don't notice it, you are a special type of dev.
If you do, you are probably an Architect-type of Dev. Someone who actually thinks about what is behind the code you are writing/supporting/working with.
Nice to meet you. You are the type of dev I would want to work with.
