Even in Europe new countries appear relatively seldom.

Actually it did happen quite recently. But it kind of balances out.

I decided to look that up, cos I didn't know.
Since 1990 there have been 34 new countries.
The break up of the Soviet Union led to the creation of 15 of them.
The break up of Yugoslavia created 5 more, then one of those later fractured into 3 more.
Czechoslovakia split into 2.
Germany unified.
In the rest of the world;
Namibia gained independence from South Africa, North & South Yemen unified, The Marshall Islands, Micronesia, and Palau all gained independence from the US, Eritrea seceded from Ethiopia, East Timor became independent from Indonesia, and in 2011 South Sudan seceded from Sudan.
According to the source I found (which may not have been updated since 2011), there have been no new countries since 2011.

UK devs up down the land voted Conservative because they didn't want to re-write their dropdown code to include Scotland.

Surely Scotland is already a country, and so is Wales. They're just not nations.
Terminology is somewhat hazy here I think. When visiting the US I always put "England" as my country of birth (because that's where I was born) but the official usually changes it to "UK". It seems they don't really want to know which country I was born in, or they think they know better than I do.
I once heard someone say on a US TV programme that he had bought his artisan kitchen tiles from a company in "North Wales, England"!

First and foremost I consider this as (CCC)^2.
"Leader to go glamorous: Initially gaining almost a pound" - That's dreamy! (8)
Leader = King
To go glamorous --> Topless
So
Leader to go glamorous = ing
gaining almost a pound = "relax" makes you gain weight
Initially ---> At the start .
Hence
RELAXING
dreamy is relaxing

Super

quixotic
glamorous - exotic
leader to go, get rid of the e
a pound - quid
almost - qui
initially gaining - stick it at the front
quixotic - dreamy
