Okay, no problem. I fear this will become as painful as any joke which is explained, but no matter - such is life.
"I cannot vote for spam Lounge messages. But I can post my own spam."
I consider the ability to help cull spam higher in importance than that of the ability to create it. I therefore would consider it reasonable if a different permission level was required, that the higher of the two should apply to the content-creation, rather than the flagging operation. So that's funny #1 for me.
"I can also approve an articles for publishing, but it is not interesting."
A perfect example of self-deprecation. Like many forms of humour, this can be subjectively funny - some will always have a distaste for it, others will always find it amusing - same goes for slap-stick or other forms of physical comedy. Funny #2 for moi.
"So, I prefer to leave my address unconfirmed, and post the spam."
I perceive the tone of this statement to be one that (made in jest) implies that it is the belief of Alex that he's just a lowly member (see #2) without the ability to kill spam, but with the permissions to create it. Therefore, it's creation is both permissible and sanctioned. This appears to be an attempt to make himself out to be an idiot - yet another example of self-deprecation. My funny #3 right there.
"PLEASE IGNORE THIS MESSAGE, IT IS RECEIVED FROM UNCONFIRMED EMAIL ADDRESS. And yes, my Shift key is OK."
An example of an imitation of a spammer, made with full confidence as a result of the absurd proposition in #3 that such behaviour is okay. The correctly capitalized sentence at the end only further serves to refine the imitation of a shameless spammer. I consider this funny #4 and #5.
While I find it less accessible than many other jokes here (and to be perfectly frank, somewhat juvenile) it seems genuinely odd to me that such a post would be seen as anything other than a (perhaps clumsy) attempt at a joke.

You're someone I consider to be level-headed and rarely disagree with or take exception to the thoughts you express here. As always, perceptions and opinions vary. I certainly don't consider yours any less valid than my own. We all have to get along after all. Sometimes the middle-ground suits no-one, but is the region that does so by the smallest amount. If the consensus is that posts of the tone Alex uses are unwelcome, then so be it. I'm happy to both abide by and disagree with said consensus.

I guess you put way more effort into interpreting that message than I did.
Although, he did claim he was serious, http://www.codeproject.com/Lounge.aspx?msg=5065085#xx5065085xx[^], but then again, he could have been sarcastic. No way to know.
If it is indeed humor, it's definitely lost on me.

Perhaps I did, who knows. It seemed straight-forward to me given my personality and experiences.
Okay, you've got me at a loss on that one. I don't really know how to take it. Going on my guess for the rest of the posts in this thread, I'm going with "I don't get it, but we'll see how the follow-up aids in understanding. It might be funny or just plain rude - the jury's still out"
My sense of humour is often rather different from those I'm in physical contact with. I appreciate the chance to learn about our differences by examining the things over which we disagree. While hating much of it - I appreciate time spent with people I don't particularly like, since it often teaches me more about myself than like-minded people do. Humour can be quite the same - sometimes it provides insight into what makes me tick, other times the insight I gain is into others. (And to be perfectly clear, I've enjoyed the exchanges you and I have had - but not because I dislike you - I dont. But because you're generally level-headed and I gain insight from your approach to many discussions)
And if anyone says we should get a room, they can gtfo - letting someone know you appreciate them doesn't happen nearly enough in the parts of the world I frequent.

2 out of 3 have felt it to be a rant. However, even with his responses to your comments I still can't tell if he's joking or not.
I give up.

Looks like he found some inconsistency and decided that the way to communicate this would be a rant. When pointed out where to report the inconsistency, it is no longer important.

enhzflep, thank you for this. I must admit, my humor is "a little less accessible" even in my native Russian language. Probably in English it is somewhat cryptic.

You're welcome Alex. I often find Russian->English conversions a little awkward and things that have amusing quality to them. (and infinitely more sophisticated than my ability to convert from English->Russian). I also tend to appreciate and enjoy the Russian outlook on life which can at times be rather bleak.
If you're so inclined, I'd be interested in knowing how poorly (or well!?) I understood your intentions in the original post. I explained them to Ryan a post or two above.

Well, it was amusing. And much more interesting than the original post. I also enjoyed walking in a cemetery with you and RyanDev.

Next time use the Joke icon so it's clear. We have people from all over the world reading this and a lot can be lost in translation.

Got to admit it didn't come across as a joke, but there again it didn't come across as rude either (at least to me)

My son and I often have interesting discussions. Last night was no exception.
So I being the geek I am often try to steer the discussion to programming and logic problems. Yesterday we were discussing variable assignments. Something I have notice with other "normal" people. My son is fairly normal even after my influence. (Must be mom).
So I as talking about
let a=2
and let b=3
So if we add a to b we get what?
responses from son ranged from "ab" or "c"
I then went into the whole memory address thing where a is just a name for a pointer to a memory address area where the value of "a" is stored. Soon as I asked for the value of "a". His response. "The value of "a" is always "a" right?" sigh no "a" is just the name for the pointer to the memory the variable name we use for then storing that value we will use later.
"Well why not just type in 2+3 if you are going to add 2 and 3 together?"
Ideas? I didn't get anywhere.

`The name of the song is called "Haddocks' Eyes."'
`Oh, that's the name of the song, is it?' Alice said, trying to feel interested.
`No, you don't understand,' the Knight said, looking a little vexed. `That's what the name is called. The name really is "The Aged Aged Man."'
`Then I ought to have said "That's what the song is called"?' Alice corrected herself.
`No, you oughtn't: that's quite another thing! The song is called "Ways and Means": but that's only what it's called, you know!'
`Well, what is the song, then?' said Alice, who was by this time completely bewildered.
`I was coming to that,' the Knight said. `The song really is "A-sitting On A Gate": and the tune's my own invention.'

as a father of three I don't disagree with this statement. But having good discussions with your children is a better teaching environment than they can ever get in school. My kids learn far more at home from Mom and I than they do at school.
You as the parent are the best and most important instructor your child shall ever have.
Fun discussions with my children are the best part of raising them. Watching them grow and learn is amazing.
