Um, you sure this was not a joke? You can chose the type of the post if it was.

Reputation ranking is several things. In the context of the question I think you are asking, it is a system for measuring credibility on the website. Serious answers or statements (ie. not jokes) from those with a high reputation should be considered worth more than someone with a lower rep value.
It is also an RPG where the winner gets ... umm, nothing.

The reputation system on the Lounge is a cross between the concept involved in the Beatles' "Magical Mystery Tour" Album and a video-game where you win by helping yourself (to more points) as well as, hopefully, teaching others
The game, itself, is influenced by the wisdom teachings of Ahura-Mazda (aka Manicheanism): i.e., it is a war-zone where a cosmic struggle is played out between the forces of Light and Dark, Yin and Yang, Vanilla and Chocolate, Groovy and Bummer, Ego and Id, Self-Aggrandizement and Altruistic Empathy.
The usual Angels and Demons are included at no extra charge.
cheers, Bill

I'm a really, really old member of codeproject, and as far as I know, the only use for the reputation system I can see is to keep the rectocranially-inverted members involved and entertained. As I'm sure you know, technocrats rarely score with members of the opposite (or, perhaps more politically correct, female) gender, so scoring points on a website has some trading value in dork circles. You can't trade reputation points for pizza or beer, so they're meaningless to me.

Happy birthday, Sis! My little brother would have been 58 last month, were it not for a drunk driver one Christmas 36 years ago, so I feel for ya, Mick.
Maybe they're both sitting back, enjoying a cool one together in some happier place right now.
Soon enough, we'll know...

And many more to go. She hasn't killed me yet! Well, technically I'm still two days short so there is still time for her to correct her mistake, but I don't plan on using a computer this weekend so I figured it would be best to leave a message. Just in case.
Sunday is our first wedding anniversary and I'm more nervous about it than I was for the actual wedding. On Saturday I have reservations for our favorite steakhouse. Sunday we are getting together with some friends who attended the wedding. Plan on going to go see a movie, grill some food, drink some alcohol, and chew the fat. Should be a good weekend.
Is it strange that the only thing I can think of is, "Man... I really should get a haircut before this weekend."?

Thanks, I feel like not getting killed is an accomplishment. Trust me when I say that she has had ample reason to do so.

Yeah, I have the odd one who actually says she wants me to tell her when something makes her look fat and means it. I still try to be diplomatic about how I say it but she would rather have me tell her than to go out and have other people see her look bad.
One of these days I will tell her and then she will tell the cops that I called her fat. It will be ruled a suicide and no charges will be pressed.
