Well a couple of weeks watching shows like Blackpool and Broadchurch made me understand at least 1 word in 5 of Scottiss... but when a customer from Manchester came here I thought the entire time he was German (I didn't know who he was, that's how communication works in my company). Didn't understand a single syllabe.

I've been in Scotland several times. Just once I've had serious troubles to understand, the guy was a taxi driver in Glasgow.

First of all, you have to establish that it is English English that they are speaking. It could be any of a dozen forms of English from the Indian sun-continent, half a dozen forms from the Caribbean, not to mention the many forms from the Eastern EU countries. You're on a hiding to nothing.

Manchester proper has a very diluted accent so if you're struggling there .....
I'm afraid I can't share your experience though. Despite being a soft Southerner by birth I seem to have a Northern ear and even once wrote a short play in idiomatic Scots!

@Nish-nishant
I enjoyed your C++/CLI book. When are you coming out with a book about Windows 10 universal app development?

Well, I am glad you liked that book. It's been 10 years now
I don't think I've got the time to write a book today. I guess I could if I really wanted to, but it'd be too stressful.
Are you into C++/CX?

I am just learning UWP now, so I'm using C# to begin with, since the asynchronous calls are simpler.
But sooner or later I'll try to tackle C++/CX.
Thanks for replying!

Ok, good luck with learning and writing some cool UWP apps

I think most of us can wait until tomorrow. That will give us time to get the relevant VS windows open and arranged properly.

So my mom has recently learned to text message. She really likes to use a lot of emoticons in her texts. It's kinda cute if not a bit annoying, however this morning I received the following text from her:
"Just letting you know that your grandfather is in the hospital again. LOL!"
I thought, sheesh, that's a bit insensitive.
Turns out that she thinks LOL stands for "Lots of Love".
LOL!
(BTW, grandpa is doing well )

Now I actually LOLled . Not for your grandfather, but because knowing my mother it would be really more plausible an actual LOL!

Shouldn't this be posted in Q&A? Either that or it's time to buy a new keyboard.
