This could actually be one "voice" in a dialogue:
Man1: "Hey, Joe!"
Man2: "Huh?!?"
Man1: "I want you to jump off that cliff!"
Man2: "Why?!?!?"
[ Man1 hesitating too long for Man2's taste, Man1 pushes Man2 off the cliff ]
Man2: "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

As the subject says........anyone else lost their vps?
I received an email from Google saying its bot was unable to perform a routine index of my site. I pulled up the website in the browser, dead. I tried to logon to the server via RDP with no joy. The Virtuoso control panel logon page was active, but couldn't get in to the server.
I remembered seeing an email that there was scheduled updates planned recently, and the dates appeared to coincide.
I contacted 1and1 support, they failed to gain access via different routes and unable to reboot the container. They elevated the issue within their own support hierarchy, who came back and said it was un-recoverable and basically dead. They managed to take a snapshot of the virtual hard disk. I had to perform a re-image and then they will give me a folder structure list so I can tell them what I want back.
Pulling up my google analytic statistics and you can clearly see when it died, early hours 17th June. 1and1 came back and said the updates were around this time and a number of customers were affected.
Surprised if a number of customers were impacted why they hadn't notified anyone, or maybe they just forgot me!
I feel this may be the end of a what has been years of satisfaction with their service...........
Waiting to see what I can recover........there is nothing critical, but all my arduino articles etc. that I had published and were the bulk of my audience attraction are obviously unavailable now to those who relied on them....
Silver lining and all that, I had an ancient build of joomla that wasn't supported or upgradeable, so can maybe consider updating to the latest version and start again!

I used to use 1and1 years ago. Then I dealt with their customer service. I haven't used them since.

I just noticed with a simple test app and stub that the 10 mbps with HS on windows 7 drops to 0.5 mbps on windows 8, and 8 mbps on windows 8.1
These are all fresh off the MDSN installs too on new partitions set up as a test box. The same physical USBN port was used for each test.
Has anyone else seen this kind of performance drop?

Drivers the same? Or are the Win8 ones generic?

The driver for the device is mine, its exactly the same for all systems. The usb subsys and host drivers are whatever MSFT put in the install, but I assume they are different.

You say fresh installs, but have you then gone back and performed a windows update to catch all latest drivers and fixes etc. There are usually hundreds on a fresh install.

Probably not, they aren't on the internet very long, if at all.
It could well be a fixed issue, just wondered if it was a known fixed issue.

I've never noticed any issues. If anything, Windows 8 (& 8.1) seems faster than Windows 7 was.

I was moderating a would-be article which gives a command line app to sort methods in source files, and I thought "It's not an article, but surely you can do this inside VS?"
So...a quick google later, I found this: Code Maid[^]
It sorts methods (and lines, but that's less useful) into alphabetical order, dumps extra lines, etc. Looks very nice!
