Despite the catastrophisers it looks like it'll barely graze the coast and will pretty much dissipate immediately it makes landfall according to the forecast. Not quite the crack of doom yet! Good day to go visit your mother 20 miles inland though!

This is so true! When I moved to the US, I found I had to simplify my English as many could not understand the range of vocabulary I was using - for example, nobody seemed to know what "promulgate" or "penultimate" meant!
- I would love to change the world, but they won’t give me the source code.

Then again, some people just use different words to say the same thing. Doesn't mean anything.
There are only 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't.

You should have seen a bunch of farm kids when we got a student teach (collage student in final year of teaching program) that spoke Queens English with a Jamaican accent.

I'm telling you for the second last time, stop telling everyone about this!
I try and use a hard word (i.e. everyday word in the UK ) at least once a day in a random email to discombobulate at least one person a day.

Hi,
As regulars might know I am trying to find a new job, I would like the views of all concerned in the issue of you see an advert think 'I have that', apply for it with Bobsjobs.com see an advert which is quite similar on Billsjobs.com apply for it. So you can bet it for the same role, my thinking is apply for both, you don't know if either is going to put you forward. Is this right, as I don't want to annoy a possible future employer or am I over thinking this (as usual)?

I try to keep away from these kinds of 'offers', and apply directly. That is, when I am looking for work, I will look for work, not towards ads offering inspiring opportunities with exciting technologies.

Someone who is writing complexer code than required, has stopped thinking and is acting. The solution is to stop, and think.

True, not everybody that claims to think actually does so.
