When I wrote a 3-tier client-server system based entirely on metadata and a custom script language, before coding a single line of the client-server system, I made it a point to code the UI's to support the metadata first.

Ask my obstetrician for the name of the record playing during my visit on the 12th.
Nope. Seems pretty straightforward to me.

Where's the rage i expected to find in here?
Doesn't anybody have a grandma that they've had to help through this win10 SP1 thing?
Yes grandma. Start / Power / Restart, then wait 45 minutes. It will finally work again.
No. It'll be no better than before. But it will work again.
At least windows explorer remembers where you f***-ing put it.
Is there anything else in this damn service pack???
Doesn't this win10 stuff ANGER anybody besides me???
I mean, wtf??? The old control panel isn't gone, but there IS a huge new one to wade through.
And it's dog slow. Full of thrilling ........ animations.
And the start menu is back. But it's now DOG slow.
Are there any good parts to windows 10? At all?
I mean, isn't this exactly how you're NOT supposed to deliver software?
Does Microsoft feel no shame?
wtf?

works fine, eh?
so it doesn't bother you that you've had to wait 2 hours for win10 and SP1 to install?
Restart your pc and boom - it's gone for 45 minutes no warning.
That doesn't bother you?
and you've got an os that's basically win7 plus bloat plus a windows update that's a lot bumpier?
I don't know about you, but I'm getting worried about microsoft.
This was supposed to be the GOOD one of the every other release cycle.
Seriously, has the emperor decided he likes his new "clothes" ???
Do we have to go looking for an emperor that isn't fricken insane?
I am pretty p***ed... This is not how the company that builds my OS should be.

It bothers me more when relatives get their pre-10 machines still get owned by some malware through some security vulnerability that was patched months ago, because they never applied the patch. And then I'm left cleaning the mess.
Consumers have proven time and again they can't be trusted to keep their systems up to date. So I'd rather see grandma have to wait for forced updates to get installed before she can get to her cat videos, than seeing her system never getting patched at all.

ha ha I hear that.
but you knoooooow gramma is gonna see that big update circle with the 10% and think to herself "where are my cat videos? I see that it says don't turn off your PC, but I really want to see those cat videos. I bet if I turned it off and on again it'll start working." FORCE POWER DOWN...
Steeeeeeve? Yeah, hi, it's gramma. My computer doesn't work, can you come help me, please?
I don't think win10 or any OS ever will everrrr solve the gramma problem

OT - really enjoyed reading your bio on your website. How did you remember all that stuff? I can't recall what happened three days ago; but I was born 20 years before you. And, incidentally, passed through Seattle (courtesy of Merchant Marine) the year you were born.

at first I just sort of started guessing at the years and then looked for picture proof.

Then grandma has no business using a computer. Get her an iPad.

What does that even mean? You don't think an iPad is a computer?

Close.

Actually, Grandma might have an easier time with one for the types of things she likely does (play games, do Facebook etc.)

Yes, the grandma/grandpa problem will never be solved...even when we are grandparents! Just think of our future grand children going crazy trying to teach us the latest technology...the circle of life continues!

Conversation with my 92 year old mother:
Mom: An icon on my desktop has a big red X on it.
Me: Yes mom, it is telling you that the folder on another computer is not available.
Mom: Can you fix it?
Me: Try turning on the other computer.
Mom: It still doesn't work.
Me: Try remapping the remote folder.
Mom: I have no idea how. This was done by my paid technician several months ago.
Me: (Grumble, grumble) Ok Mom, give me a few minutes and I will remap it myself.
Mom: Thanks son, I knew you could fix it.

Technically, they skipped one, so it also might be they skipped the good one. Wrong move Microsoft.
