Now I want Windows 10 as it lets you use CTRL V with the command window

Welcome to what Linux has been doing for years now...

hahaha!
But I like Windows more!

I recently went exclusively to using Linux at home... but I still have dual-boot setup on my desktop in case there's software that I want/need that only runs on Windows (but keeping that on Win7 for now).

I am working, albeit very slowly, on my take over the world project.
it's a document editor: there will be maps, rich text and some kind of grid data.
doing the map now it suddenly struck me I could save the map data as a text file, it will only take .. a little more work (the binary file format involve minimal code writing...)
wondering about doing it...
the rational would be: an adventurous user can always do power tool editing the text format!
on the other hand I could as well disclose and document the API publicly...
wonder, what should I do....
another thought I had is, I can always make it a text format much later! (it's far from finished and I could focus on more useful things now!)
Any idea?!
[EDIT] For the record I was aiming for something akin to the simple .obj[^] file format.
But Jochen Arndt had good argument as to why it's not worth the bother!

If you're serious about the text version, have you thought about ODF[^]? If there is an existing standard into which your save data will fit, then it saves you a lot of faffing around to get the file format right.
But...is it a good idea to publish your Take Over The World plans so publically? Give the authorities (and competing would-be dictators) a better chance to scupper them...
(And I'm betting you don't even have your Secret Volcano Base finished yet!)
Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay...

I have to admit the volcano base hasn't even started yet!
mm.. ODF... I will have to decipher the format first!
Further, in the case of the text format for example, I might be able to SAVE as .odf...
But reading will be an entirely different matter (since I intend to have a only basic formatting)

This is Javascript. If you put big wheels and a racing stripe on a golf cart, it's still a f***ing golf cart.

Any possibility to serialize it into a XML file, that can be read by both humans and machines?

yes, that would be possible...
though I was thing of something more like the .obj[^] file format, more human readable than machine readable...

I dont't know how your map data are organized and how much text data would be created. But I think nobody would walk through huge amounts of text representing some data.
If you really want to use text I suggest to use XML.

really good point!
might just stick with my binary data!

Go for JSON! It has a much simple format as compared to XML, intuitive and very much easy to implement. If .NET is your secret weapon, then Newtonsoft.Json may be the arm and so on.
You can blame everything that Jason Vorhees would do in order to help you to take over the world, on JSON.

Text sucks in nearly every imaginable way, and users mucking with their data in such an unstructured/unchecked/arbitrary way almost guarantees a Massive F***up will happen. They could also edit binary files, but usually that's done with a hex editor or something, it's not as likely to destroy the structure then.

Can use SVG for the map.
