Have you tried reinstalling from scratch/iso? I had a problem with the windows 10 upgrade once and downloaded the ISO at a relatives to be sure. I was right and it was a problem with the upgrade. P.S. As far as getting to IP settings did you right click the connection->network and sharing center? which shows a interface like the windows 7 one? I prefer that compared to the settings app non-sense. You have to use settings app for certain settings while most of the important ones are in network and sharing center.

In addition, the new visual studio ISO is so big that you might corrupt windows if you install incorrectly (at minimum a messed up registry and reinstall visual studio but worst case you need to reinstall windows). I was surprised how long the visual studio installation took.

I am sooooo glad I made a full system backup before allowing Windows 10 to do its wicked work.
Having suffered the loss of my favourite applications because Win 10 spits them out and having suffered maxed out SSDs while updates are being installed while I am trying to get some work done, I blew Windows 10 away and reinstalled Windows 7 from the backup.
I'm happy.
I may not last forever but the mess I leave behind certainly will.

I found that about 06:30 this morning!
Win 10 IS currently installing from ISO onto a third 1TB HDD...
Then I can look at adding Chrome, SQL, VS, ... And my apps and data.
Then yet another backup...
Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay...

So far I did 3 "clean" installs of 10 from an ISO disc. Everything just worked for me.

And if it does help, that means, that Microsoft was able to reintroduce a bug from early preview version - great job!

Seamless update with absolutely no problems over a week ago. One happy bunny! I heap scorn on your self-fulfilling prophecies of doom and perfidious naysaying.

I installed Windows 10 the week it came out and had similar troubles with my laptop. The installation completely destroyed the entire network stack; no Internet no network connectivity.
The fix was to rollback. Rolling back was very easy.
The problem was that I have Cisco VPN software installed and after doing research, found that everyone else is having the same problem. To have a clean installation, users must first uninstall Cisco VPN software and then install Windows 10.

Interesting. I'm updated just fine and it works better than ever. Sorry for your troubles. Wish I could help.

Until MS completely turns its stance and gets back to WinXP/Win7 ways of developing OS or there won't be any feasable way of running new software over Win7 I won't change - exactly as I did for 98 first and XP then, jumping over 2k and Vista. The first one broke compatibility to every game and driver I had (no, I won't buy new hardware for an OS), the second... should I say?
I jumped over Win8 and I hope to avoid 10. I'll be changing hardware soo though, and laptops are always one compatibility hell. I hope I won't be forced to install a "cured" Win7 ISO but I'm ready to do that if I must.

I got network - but VPN was totally screwed.
I spent hours trying to make it work, but in the end the only thing that worked was to
'Refresh' aka reset Win10 to blank slate and reinstall all my apps.

My laptop upgraded without incident to Win10 Pro from Win8.1 Pro months ago.
The November update, however, killed my WiFi connection and I had to restore to the earlier version to get it back.
The November update actually put my cable modem into a coma and killed it for everyone, not just my laptop.
Once back at my earlier version, I upgraded the WiFi adapter driver and the same thing happened, I lost my WiFi due to the cable modem going into a coma again.
I haven't tried to apply the November update again and then rollback the WiFi driver yet. That's next.
The moral of the story may be that the issue doesn't lay with Win10 itself, but the concomitant driver updates.
Cheers,
Mike Fidler

Similar thing for me on Thursday - dead network after install. Fortunately all I had to do was to manually install an ethernet adapter (updated from a few weeks back).
As a pessimist I'm still waiting for things to be broken but not yet, oddly enough.

So,
Yesterday, my daughter thinks she brook her Brand New Surface Book.
The pen stopped working. The touch screen stopped working.
Because I have 30+ years of computer experience, I suggest a full reboot.
She complains that she rebooted JUST the day before. I suggest that she reboot,
unless she does not need the Pen, or the touchscreen... But reboot early, reboot often,
with a new Operating System, relatively new hardware.
She rebooted, and found this update took FOREVER. She comes to me and says that
she did not know it needed to install all of this. I suggested that "it knew", because
it started breaking things to force the issue [I am cynical enough to believe they
may have done that on purpose!]
A long time after the reboot (she opened an old laptop and started watching netflix),
the computer finished, and all was good.
BTW, we love the Surface Book. Great features... Windows 10... Not so much!

I have a brand new laptop that is doing something similar. I wonder if the update is the problem. For some reason the wifi just stops working. It works fine then it complains there is no internet and won't come back until I restart or at least go into sleep mode then back on.
Already reinstalled the driver, but it's still occurring.

I'm totally confused. Didn't you sign up to be one of their beta testers by installing Windows 10. As a beta tester, you should expect these kinds of snafus. What's the big deal?
Or are you saying you finally got around to installing some of your deferred updates and they hosed your system? I could totally understand why you'd be upset if that's what happened.
We can program with only 1's, but if all you've got are zeros, you've got nothing.

They did the same to me
it prompted for the update at the end of the day so I boldly went, why not it is only another 3gb download...
Morning: I would to restart, I have scheduled one but you could do it now if you like....
Shrugs: pressed "Restart Now" 2.75 hours later here is your newly upgraded windows
except you have no network, tried to restore but no restore points before the install!!!
uninstalled network card rebooted, base machine now has internet but not any of the Hyper V virtuals
Reconfigured the first virtual and again got no internet access on the host machine
Took another 4 hours to get all the virtuals happy with the network AND the host machine at the same time
My (lack of) privacy settings all seem to have been reset in the upgrade as well
I was impressed with the upgrade from 8.1 to 10, not quite so much with the upgrade from 10 to 10.
Has anyone noticed any improvements? functional differences?

Were you running a Home edition of the whatever OS you updated? If so, MS upgraded you to a Home version of Win 10.
Nobody talks about it much but Win 10 Home is crippled when it comes to networks. It won't join a domain etc etc etc by design.
FWIW.

They can move me to 10 when they pry 7 from cold, dead hands.
5 years from now, it will be called AdWin! windows with forced downloaded adds everywhere!! but it was free, so don't complain!
