Windows updates really grinds my gears! Security updates - sure, but all the additional crap is overwhelming and should be optional. Currently you can only postpone/pause this nonsense for a couple of weeks.

I beg to differ. There is nothing on a well configured linux box that I cannot do.
Office work. Libre works actually better the MSOffice.
Browsers - Chrome, Brave, Firefox and yes even Edge all have a version that work just fine.
RDP - Remmina is a fantastic RDP client for getting on any of the servers I need to get into.
VPN - Well Openconnect from command line works just wonderfully
Coding - vscode works, notepad++ works and lots of other clients. I am happy.
I have yet to encounter even one app that either doesn't work or that doesn't have a just as good one in Linux.
And the kicker is I feel alot safer in Linux because I set it up and I run the updates when I want to run the updates.

I agree with you 100%.
I run Ubuntu 22.04 as my WFH desktop computer.
I use Remmina and it is fantastic and so much better than the RDP client for Windows.
I connect to multiple work Win10 & Server 2022 desktops.
Why is Remmina so much better?
Because Remmina has a tabbed UI which allows connection to multiple remote desktops all while allow just a quick tab-switch to any other box.
I cannot actually believe that Win10 RDP does not do this. I have to open multiple windows and there's actually another thing too.
Win10 RDP client does not fully capture the keyboard unless the RDP client is fullscreened.
That means you cannot do extended key calls like ALT-TAB to iterate over open applications unless the Windows RDP client is full-screened.
In remmina, I can send that command to any of the remote desktops and the Remmina screen does not have to be full-screened.

Well, the operating system isn't called Tabs now is it?
I’ve given up trying to be calm. However, I am open to feeling slightly less agitated.

Do you remember when Internet Explorer only supported one web page -- didn't have tabs?
At the time, it was so annoying that Bill Gates had his devs make him a special version that supported tabs.
It wasn't until IE 7 that there were tabs (IE7 gets tabs but does it matter? | ZDNET[^])
Yes, I agree, Microsoft does not know how to UI.

It let Microsoft Office use it...

Win 7 Pro, I would use that over Win11...

I recently installed Mint 21.1 on an older NUC. Works and looks great!

I've done the same (except installed Lubuntu) with an old 2010 lappie.
It's amazing how OS devs can actually make choices to get streamlined system if they want to (and aren't held back by having to support everything for everyone in every possible case).
Linux FTW!!!
