My son uses hearing aids which are hidden inside the ear canal; they really are quite brilliant.

Congratulations on what sounds like a new job you are really enthusiastic about !
And, since I am sure you are going to help aging members of CP, like this antique, purchase hearing assistance devices at a supernaturally substantial discount, I thank you in advance for your future gifts !
I had a Texan friend here in Thailand who was a certified Audiologist, and inventor, who was producing (by hand, one-at-a-time) some fantastic high-end in-ear speakers (ear-buds); last I heard of him he had joined-up with a Chinese outfit in Xian as CTO. I really enjoyed listening him talk about the nuances of sound, and human hearing, in contrast to other species' hearing, etc.

...our new house!
Closed on 12/30/15, just got cable installed. I was using Verizon DSL, which utterly sucked. I just test the Mid-Hudson cable connection, 26Mbps down, 3Mbps up.
Now, that's not great compared to what you city folks and fiber folks get, but it's more than 10 times faster than what I was getting with Verizon out here in the boonies. (The new house is also in the boonies, about 1/2 mile from where we currently live.)
Funny thing is, I was about to rework a website that I put together for a client that relies heavily on jqWidgets controls, because the pages load so slowly. Ironically, browsing the website here at the new home, it's incredibly fast. Good grief, I had no idea. So I'm pleased that that issue can be deferred, but deferred none-the-less because jqWidgets is really bloated, so I'd like to replace it with something more lightweight at some point.

Welcome to the 21st century!
BTW - We have awesome smart phones, great tablets and a choice of good OSes now. We're working on autonomous vehicles and re-usable rockets too. On the other hand... there are the Kardashians.

I'm too living far from any cable based option...But the maximum speed we got is 15Mbps...Still good for CP
Best wishes to the new house

I'm about 8 or 10 miles from the nearest fibre-to-your-house town, but I am in a fibre-to-the-cabinet area - which means the half mile or so is copper. And I get 40Mbps down, 8 Mpbs up (instead of the 5 down, 1 up I got on "full copper").
If your site is moving significantly faster than it was on 2.5 down, then it needs serious fixing - because you can't control what your clients visitors are using, and it could be costing them money.
(This is one of the reasons I don't develop on state-of-the-art machines - if it works on mine, it'll be better in the "real world" where they do have SotA kit! )
Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay...

Gz on your new house!
Marc Clifton wrote: so I'd like to replace it with something more lightweight at some point. Ah, well the problem is the original client that consumes it; a "webbrowser" - replace that and you need not worry about jqWidgets

May I get some recommendations on a simple and useful QR Code Reader App ?
The phone is the Sharp Aquos.
It's an Android.
A link to the app would be helpful.
I have already done THIS SEARCH[^] and THIS SEARCH[^]. SEO once again means, "Severely Exaggerated Obfuscation. I'm looking for...
- Simplicity of user interface
- Ease of execution on a trade show floor
- Simplicity of Download and install
- Cost (free is best, but not required)
In that order. Thanks

What do you want it to do?

No, No, No, a thousand times no.
Upon installation, he reuqested access to my contacts (which are not needed for this use) and five or ten other resources which are not needed.
I then rejected that and chose instead "QR Code Reader" by TWMobile.
When I run that app, he puts ads on my phone screen, along with a "warning" that my phone is infected and needs to be "cleaned". I agree. The infection comes from the app by TWMobile. And needs to be cleaned.
I think the rapid answer to my concerns is that Freeware on an Android is as bad or worse than freeware for a windows desktop PC.
i.e., Freeware isn't free.

Kind of difficult for it to save a QR code that has contact information to your contacts if it doesn't have access to your contacts.
I believe it can also encode one of your contacts as a QR code so you can share it with someone.
