Ugly. Granted. But how that's exactly 'functional'?

Part of the monstrosity I'm currently working on wanted the ability to page through columns of a table - first column must always show, then one of the others. That was part of the solution - I just need to update the number in the second :not for each column. So, functional at the moment.

Ugly, maybe, but extremely useful:
Quantity Queries for CSS · An A List Apart Article[^]
One I almost used the other week, to apply different styles to the first item in a list if there were an odd number of items:
.product-box:first-child:nth-last-child(odd)
{
...
}

I don't see how being able to chain pseudo selectors makes CSS a bad thing. You can format it anyway you want if you're concerned about readability...
#someTable
th:not(:first-child)
:not(:nth-child(3)),
#someTable
td:not(:first-child)
:not(:nth-child(3))
{
display: none;
}
If you don't like the lack of stuff like inheritance, just about any CSS preprocessor these days will give that to you.

Hi All,
First post after a day NotInThePub, working on a trial basis for the company I had the interview with. Seems not too bad! . Mentioned a way of doing tests using ATE they liked . Met a customer that had an idea for a product that seemed interesting (read so bloombin' weird that only he and a friend wanted one) but do-able. Sadly discussion of money is for tomorrow (talk of covering costs at least!) but all good , need as it has been a little while since I have had to whole early morning thing...

Sounds good!
But I must say working for a company, for any amount of time, without talking compensation first seems a bit odd. Then again I've not looked for employment for a long time, things may be different these days.

An interesting thought, though, is that the company keeps a string of interviewees coming along, each doing their bit for free. I suppose stranger things have happened!

Nah, a mix years of bass playing and soldering have seen to that, in fact I have no readable finger prints on two fingers (fun going through US immigration, once I was the only person in the back room at JFK who had a valid visa ), but yeah, point taken!

Great Glad to hear you have something
Sure the money thing is important, however as someone who has himself recently resigned and is exploring other environments or possibly working for myself I am aware that having something to do and being able to contribute is very important.

I speak from experience, you can only clean so much, decorate so much, before the 'lure' of day time tv, and you find your self watching either Property programs, Antique programs or the 'my wife selpt with an alien' TV shows, when that almost happend to me I was very glad the firm arms laws in the UK are so tight....
