I don't like to imagine, what comments such a question will produce in Q/A.
I miss "What have you tried?"

Probably too late now but you might have considered a Chromebook for the old gal.

Why didn't you just leave the laptop alone? Seems like you created a world of pain by trying to "downgrade" it to W7, especially since the manufacturer probably doesn't support drivers for W7.

I didn't downgrade it.
We ordered it without OS because Win10 made 110€ difference and she wanted Win7 anyways... and now I am regretting it. But that doesn't help

Advice: Immediately restore the laptop to factory settings. You did create restore media right? Hopefully you haven't deleted the recovery partition either... at any rate, put a fresh copy of 7 on a new SSD for the 'not so old' rig. You keep the laptop, which is probably way more horsepower than she needs, and let her keep the tower. Good luck!

I fail to see what an elderly woman would miss in Win10 that she had in Win7. Unless she's doing some cross-platformn hw driver development that support iMacs using Eclipse.

Doctors and lawyers charge you pretty coins for every advice they give.
You wouldn't think twice asking a geek an advice. We should do the same to make our advice more valuable too.

They can do so because you need them. Once a dev cannot be missed, the same applies.

The reason IT has developed so quickly and been so beneficial to so many is largely because if the open-handed generosity that many developers have when it comes to sharing knowledge.
It's one of the things I really value about the developer community - the willingness to share knowledge and help others for nothing.

I concur. As the lone programmer in a business with over 500 staff members, I could not do my job half as well without the very valuable and free advice of our Code Project community.
