Movie Quote Of The Day
Do you see any Teletubbies in here? Do you see a slender plastic tag clipped to my shirt with my name printed on it? Do you see a little Asian child with a blank expression on his face sitting outside on a mechanical helicopter that shakes when you put quarters in it? No? Well, that's what you see at a toy store.
Which movie?

It's useful for sharing code snippets and log files. Basically it's used for things that don't deserve a full-blown project.

Courtesy of Australia's favourite telco, I have one of these things. Windows Phone 8.1. I have no desire to use it for telephony (5 numbers is enough, already). Wondering if anyone knows of something it would be useful for. NB This is the lounge, not the soapbox. My "real" mobile is a midrange Samsung, which I am happy with.
Cheers,
Peter

You can experiment with UWA (Universal Windows App, is that the name?) see if you can get one exe to run "everywhere"!
|

UWP/UWA doesn't run on Windows Phone 8.1

Thief bait? (Admittedly, very stupid thieves only)
Very small chopping board? (For use with small kitchens, not illegal narcotics)
Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay...

Some students at my middle school once 'hacked' the blocking system and blocked Google and Wikipedia for 'Malware', then a week later blocked the entire internet for 'Porn'.
The control file for the blocking system was available over anonymous FTP with upload and download ability. It was a simple text file with one rule per line.
Those students got into BIG trouble for those pranks. Hacking school computers was grounds for expulsion.
Although the state Department of Education ordered them reinstated and ordered the school to do a full computer security audit after finding out how accessible the network was. The network administrator account was "Admin/Admin" for the username and password, and all passwords for school-use websites (which were the same as those for logging into the network) were stored in plain text in an internet-exposed database.
There were lots of fines for those oversights. Even the student information database was accessible from the internet, and it contained Social Security Numbers and other sensitive info.
It was then discovered that these flaws covered the entire district, and the District IT team and administrators were charged with several crimes (I don't remember what exactly). It was kind of a big scandal at the time and prompted the Department of Education to perform audits at all schools in the state, uncovering a lot of problems, mostly at public schools.
