Too often the news only reports the weirdness and so if you never take the time to get to know other people you'll judge an entire religion/race/gender/etc on what the stupid media tells you to believe.

The just (understandably) hate people who try to force their beliefs on others. That's the entire point of the Flying Spaghetti Monster and the Invisible Pink Unicorn.
That, and they're having a laugh and enjoying themselves.
Sounds like they've got the right attitude, to me.

Atheists caught up in the physical aspects only (proving God exists with science), which misses the point.
Poetic and spiritual meanings escape them. Believing in God is about healthy relationships, with God and other people. It's about being a good person.
Saying "science cannot prove an invisible man in the sky" indicates much deeper issues with them. It is no secret why such unflattering and antisocial stereotypes follow the atheist community.

"I believe in some deity, therefore I am mentally and psychologically superior to those who don't" really doesn't wash -- especially given that the most spiritual and poetic people I know (and I know a lot of writers and poets) believe that there is no deity.
Take it to the soapbox; I've had enough of reading religious supremacist cr@p in the Lounge.

Again, you have some misconceptions.
We're not trying to prove (or disprove) God at all. Theists are, and failing miserably at it. We just ask the questions.
The whole thing comes down to this. If you're going to try to make laws and force everyone else to live by what YOU perceive as Gods word, YOU better bring some damn good evidence to the table for proving it is indeed Gods word and not mans. That's where the theists fall flat on their face. In order to prove it is Gods word, you first have to prove there is a God. Then you have to prove those words came from God.
Until then...

In all honesty, the OP was by Mycroft, and while I personally don't care, it should probably have been posted in the soapbox.

Oops, I did not think it would deteriorate into a religious bun fight. And you are right should have been in the SB.

And yet, having two brain hemispheres working independently, you are a conscious being able to appreciate abstract meanings. That proves beyond a doubt that humans are more than flesh and bone, but an eternal soul.
If that were not the car, we would all be 2 or 3 conscious beings in one body due to the different physical brain regions.

OK, that's an assertion. Prove it. First, define exactly what an "eternal soul" is and then prove it exists.

Nah mate. The link you supplied no more proves the existence of a soul than it proves how computers work or how Elon's cars are assembled.

If you reach the end of an algebra problem, and realize your answer is "1=2", you know that you miscalculated somewhere, because the answer is BY DEFINITION wrong.
Likewise, if you figure through your world view that the 9/11 hijackers, or the sandy hook shooter, who endeavored to commit evil then escape unpunished, if you believe that they succeeded in that endeavor due to the absence of an eternal soul to endure punishment, then you know you have a problem somewhere, because it cannot by definition be a GOOD world view if it allows evil to go unpunished.
