Eh - Hh... You have a desktop....
|
|
|
|
|
Oh yes.
I don't get on with lappies - the keyboard is too squashed, the "mouse" is rubbish, the screen is too small, ...
And if you fit a proper keyboard, a proper mouse, a pair of good monitors - you've got a desktop that you can't put anything on top of!
Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay...

I have had the same 'box and guts' for about 7 years now. For the last few years, the fan noise had gotten to be quite noticeable, but I never thought much about it until I put Windows 10 with a new SSD on it a few months back. Windows 10 installed a demo version of Minecraft which I found to be amusing enough to buy. The game was fun, but I noticed that the fans would really spin up after a few minutes followed a few minutes later by a faint burning smell followed quickly by an instant system shutdown.
I installed a hardware monitor and found that the CPU temps were reaching over 270F! After a thorough cleaning, the hw monitor showed the CPU temps maintaining less than 150F and the reduction in noise was huge! Now, I hardly hear it at all.

Well, when i was 4, my dad bought a trusty XBox. you know, the first, ruggedy, blocky one from 2001. we had tons and tons and tons of fun playing all kinds of games together - until he died, when i was just 6.
i couldnt touch that console for 10 years.
but once i did, i noticed something.
we used to play a racing game, Rally Sports Challenge. actually pretty awesome for the time it came.
and once i started meddling around... i found a GHOST.
literaly.
you know, when a time race happens, that the fastest lap so far gets recorded as a ghost driver? yep, you guessed it - his ghost still rolls around the track today.
and so i played and played, and played, untill i was almost able to beat the ghost. until one day i got ahead of it, i surpassed it, and...~
i stopped right in front of the finish line, just to ensure i wouldnt delete it.
Bliss.

Deep! Wow....
Being a (not so young) father, I get the same feelings when I listen to the song "7 years" from Lukas Graham...

Thanks for sharing! This story is especially moving for me today. My family received the news yesterday morning that my dad's surgery to remove a stage 1 growth in his stomach revealed much worse..stage 4 and affecting stomach, small intestines, and pancreas. The only hope now is chemotherapy starting in a couple of weeks. At any moment now they will be giving him the news. I can't be there, but my mom and brothers will be. I'm trying to be optimistic about it all and just stay busy. Cancer sucks!

Oh elephant! I'm so sorry to hear that.
I've just been through something roughly similar recently. It's turned my whole world upside down.
Life is so exciting, mind-boggling, inexplicable and yet finite.
Without birth there is no life. Without life there is no death.
It's like a loan of existence - you can't have it without giving it back at some point.
In my sleep or something sudden is what I want for me. Slower and more protracted is what I want for me for the sake of those I care about.
Enjoy every single micro-second.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who helped and participated with my question yesterday, Out keyword: to use or not to use.
I have a much better understanding of when the use of out is appropriate. It also gave me a great idea.
I am going to add a bool TryGet(TKey key, out TValue value) mechanic to my custom generic binary search trees. I have finally found a way around the KeyNotFoundException mechanic used in Dictionary<TKey,TValue> that I also implemented in my own code. This way, I can choose whether or not to have an exception thrown if a search hits the bottom of the BTree without finding a match. This should trim a good bit of fat off of key searches.

Purson - The Window Cleaner (Spotify, account required)[^]
Apologies for not providing a YouTube link (because we all know and love YouTube), but somehow this band only released this track on Spotify and SoundCloud (although I can't find it on SoundCloud, only websites that embed SoundCloud)...
It's an awesome song for Purson's upcoming album Desire's Magic Theater and it takes you right back to the psychedelic 60's and 70's!
Listened to the new songs, pre-ordered the special signed CD edition, and this track became my song of the week (although the others are awesome too!)

Hello there. Recently I had an interview with CEO of this company. In the final phase of this interview, he asked about some of the people who happen to be my current managers in current company. Although switching companies for a number of reasons (including but not limited to money) is not a crime, but should I be worried (are my chances of getting hired slim) ?
=========== EDIT ================
Thanks a lot for your feedback guys.
1- Some of you guys are right. He knew those people and just wanted (or intended) to check what/how they are doing.
2- I, definitely, did not speak ill of them.
My worry was, is there any chance he would contact my current employer?
But after posting this question, when I analyzed his tone and the way he was talking, I came to the conclusion that he was only asking about his past work-mates. That's all.
