I got one of each of the following today
- One with the obligatory suspicious file attachment, and the subject line of "Build Assemblies"...
- From "NYC National Lotto" declaring that my email address was randomly selected and I won $5.2 million. No file attachment, but wanted some personal info.

So presumably you forwarded the attachment from the first to the address from the second, with a message telling them your info was attached?

I hadn't thought of that, but I will certainly try it. Usually, I can't respond to these kinds of emails.

What a Superb idea.

We should all do it. It could lead to the death of the "unsavvy" spammers and thieves, who just download or copy malware, thinking it will make them rich.
We'll still have to worry about the guys who know their way around a computer, but we'd have to worry about that anyway.

How thick (or blind with greed) do you have to be to believe you won a good prize in a raffle / lottery that you never entered?
I'm tempted to say that spammers here are doing the species a favour by impoverishing the stupid to the point where they are unlikely to breed...

Sorry, but lack of funds does not stop people from having children.

Not at all. As evidence, I submit the current welfare recipients in the US that profess to have more babies to increase the amount they receive from the state.

Also impoverished people are quite willing to breed with other impoverished people.

Yeesh, I hate it when people put out statements about things like that.
Did you know that the cost to the country of the people you're talking about is equivalent to about nine "smart bombs"?
But there's always plenty of money to pay for bombs.

That has nothing to do with people exploiting the system. Welfare is supposed to be temporary, not a life decision.

Sure, but the ones who (in English, we say "take the piss") exploit the system cost less than peanuts, compared to every other expense of government -- the amount of time and money spent on discussing and attacking them exceeds what they cost by an order of magnitude.
Just let 'em get on with it. They'll be happier (living a life that suits their sensibilities, but you and I would never want to live), and you'll be happier (without the stress of getting angry about something that costs virtually nothing). Everyone wins.

I haven't lived in the UK for over fifteen years, so saying "in English, we say" has become something of a habit.

I have a zero-tolerance outlook on a lot of things. I do it right, and I think everyone else should, too.

That's the problem.
Not everyone is wired like us, and able to get the "9 to 5" mentality, where you work for whatever hours to build a life according to the tenets of the society we believe in.
Their way wouldn't work for me -- get up at 10, play with the kids, do whatever, do some more whatever, etc, but I have to accept that the society we live in was imposed on us, and we live according to its structures because we were brought up to do so.
I mean, I'm a contractor, and you've had at least three jobs, since I've known you, so we both know what being unemployed is like, and I'm pretty sure that you hate it as much as I do, but not everyone's brain is wired the same way as ours are, and I'm not sure we should treat them badly because of it.
After all, if you're not wired up to live the way our current society demands, WTF can you do? If the only way to make a living is to follow the rules that you and I are happy with, then people that aren't happy with that are pretty much screwed, and can only sink to the bottom (of Our society).
As to whether our way of living or theirs is right, there's no answer, because there is no right; there's only "live until you die", and if that means "treat people who don't want to live the same life you live like cr@p", then I'll go for option F.
