The 14th of September 2025 (14/9/2025) will be 1222/32/452 (but only in countries where we use DD/MM/YYYY, elsewhere it will probably be a pretty routine day).

It used to take a few seconds for my computer to boot with Win10 10586 (fast CPU, SSD). It now takes a minute or so, most of which is spent with a totally blank screen (no animated circle of dots, no nothing). Now I have to decide between trying to install everything from scratch (as opposed to the update), or debugging the problem using the event log.
Does anyone have ideas as to possible causes / troubleshooting approaches?
If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack.

Would this help?

You could use the trace function to analyse what is going on and where the hold up.
There is likely a borked driver or service that is needing updated.
I updated my laptop this morning and have had no issues (other than the corporate wifi connection session timed out during the night and had to restart the download this morning! )

Thanks, I'll try it and update as to the results.

Hi Daniel,
was your anti virus software running during the upgrade?
Please be aware that a couple of dozen system files are getting changed due to the anniversary update and an anti virus could
make lots of trouble. I.e. blocking of switching the files, etc.
Hint: Have a look into the hardware manager.
Are there some warnings or errors regarding incompatible hardware devices or driver problems?
You could try a system refresh with "keeping" your current files.
Perhaps this will help?
Kind regards
Carsten

If you turn it on a minute before you use to, then you will find it still boots at the same time.

I have seen something similar on my computer when I log onto Windows with a Microsoft account and the machine cannot get through to MS to verify the credentials. Do you have a good Internet connection when logging on?
