Actually, I'm rather egotistic about my articles. I pretty much know when I've written something that will at least be in the competition. Now granted, I never actually write an article for the sake of being in the competition, but I do pretty much know when one has a good chance of making it.
And then I watch it.

What do you get when you cross a joke with a rhetorical question?

Do questions with multiple question marks annoy you???

The Center for Reading Research at the University of Ghent is making a vocabulary test[^].
Well it's obviously a bit of a survey aswell, it's a university after all.
I scored pretty well I believe, considering I'm not native.
Quote: You said yes to 73% of the existing words.
You said yes to 0% of the nonwords.
This gives you a corrected score of 73% - 0% = 73%.
This is a high level for a native speaker.

Not good.
I read it as the center for Reading (town in Berkshire) research.
I think the capital letter threw me.

43%
I have to admit, that most of the words I failed to recognize are not part of the normal words I read.
I'd rather be phishing!

My dear friend, Reading is in Massachusetts.

I am English and consider myself good at the English language but I still only scored 93% on the test - although I did know cosecant but hit the wrong response as I was rushing and didn't consider it properly spelled without the hyphen. Presumably this is an American spelling thing.

Only?!
Some of those words were really weird I find.

I'm pretty good at weird words! I have taken part in various English language and spelling tests and often scored 100% - so 93% is definitely "only".
However, since German is my second language, and I used to be "fluent" in it, I bet I wouldn't even get 50% in that non-native language. It's all a matter of usage and education.

But mine is more better.

I thought mine was the bestest, but I only got 66%

How about your English dialect?
Is that Northern London, or Southern Wales? How about Australian...
Come on ...

Mine is Swedish with a bit of German in it.

I get all kinds of weird speculations about my dialect, but actually, very few people can place it accurately as being Danish (from Copenhagen). I've had English, Welsh, Irish, German, Swiss, Dutch and much more - oh yeah, somebody REALLY dialect challenged thought I was from Gotland...

Some there Herself recognised that I didn't: "oxlip" for example.

Herself refused to do the test herself, but wanted to see what I missed.
I am not allowed to speculate as to why she doesn't so it herself...
