One thing has always bothered me about apps from the app stores. How can development shops make any real money off of them if they are a stand-alone app. I see the benefit of a company extending their services to the mobile arena as that works out better for the consumer. I see that some companies have made millions with micro-transactions, from which they will never get a penny from me. What really gets me is, when I browse the app stores, I will see 45 versions of an app that all do the exact same thing, are all free, and I would surmise they make money with in-app ads. How can that be good business plan? Throwing junk apps out there in hopes that somebody will pick your faceless app out the crowd doesn't seem sensible to me.
Even the stock market has minimum value requirements. The app stores should also have a minimum daily usage requirement.

My uninformed opinion on this (uninformed because I A. have never developed my own "app" and B. have a Windows 8 phone, so no "App Store" to speak of) is that these developers are all about quantity over quality. I do have some experience with game engines, and I can tell you that downloading/installing Unity, buying the "Match 3 App Starter kit" from the Unity Store for 25USD, and uploading to $APP_STORE$ is a trivial amount of developer time and effort. You get 36 suckers to buy that app @ 0.99USD and you've already covered your cost.

Incredibly true (although the windows store is by far the worst of the three).
I now only go to the apple or android stores after personal recommendation of products, and I don't bother at all with windows "universally worse than the desktop versions" apps at all.

Wedding invite mistake offers children for dinner - AOL[^]
Quote: A mistake on a wedding invitation reply card is going viral for its meal choices.
Guests get to pick from beef, pork, or a child who is "12 and under."
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

I'm going to head out to the pasture right now, but I can stand out without buying it. That also always was my argument against getting married. If I want a glass of milk, I don't go overboard by buying the cow and I can also stand out without buying the pasture.
Let's just hope the camera does a better job documenting my outstanding deeds this time.

But then he'd be outstanding, but also out to pasture. That's no good at all. He really needs to buy the farm, then he can be outstanding in his field
