You, sir, are sick. I like it!

It sounds more like a "640KB should be enough for anybody" issue. They probably didn't envision trains getting that long.

They clearly didn't look at Australia then: the record there is 7.3Km long for a single train!

Oh no. You see, with the boxes everywhere the local cat population will swarm, swarm you hear, to your home. Soon the numbers will go beyond mere arithmetic and pass through algebra straight into quantum. Then once you hit critical mass the cats will start to impinge on each others space time vectors and not even Schrodinger himself will be able to help!

If you, for some reason, mean Quality Assurance - isn't that why we have users, and isn't that statement now recursive?

Someone's resume probably includes "Accomplishments: Prevented numerous collisions on Swiss trains by counting axles on each departing train, thus ensuring axles on said trains were less than or greater than 256, but not exactly 256."

Help me out, I haven't had enough coffee yet to think it through. Why would a number of axles > 256 not also reset it when the counter reached 256?

I just happened to notice on a provider that their acceptable use policy sets a limit on the number of files that can be stored under one of their packages. The limit is 262,144 which is 2^18.
It comes across as a very arbitrary number, but must be tied into some sort of file system allocation limit. I suspect some form of *nix box. Having dug around various links on the net, I have failed yet to find any reason why they have come up with this number.
I'm just curious, but any one any ideas where this limit is tied to?
