Possibly because we like things right? Not sure...

Each to their own, and I hope the B12 does the trick for you.
But if I had the choice between a bacon butty and an injection, well....

They're nasty ones too, I've felt the sting for hours

No, I'm not going to blast veganism and tell you to eat a liver sausage.
There are no animals nor plants that are able to synthesize vitamin B12, only bacteria (and archaea what ever that is).
The growing vitamin B12 deficiency in the western world (yes, India with it's large vegetarian population isn't having this deficit at the same level) is probably because of our increasingly sterile environment.
So dump the shots, eat a spoon of dirt instead.
Much less of a joke than originally intended.

I had the same problem, but when I got the B12 shots it made my skin really bad for a while (until my body got "used to it" or something), or at least that's what I blame because it coincided and nothing else changed that might cause it. No change for you?

It's faster than that. You'll notice by next week, probably earlier now that you're paying attention.

I hope not - he only just has his first shot, so if he does, then by the end of twelve weeks he's going to have mutated into a lizard...

Ah.
So it is hereinafter to be known as "The Dutch Lurgy".
It probably comes from eating too much mashed potato with vegetables mixed into it.
Or sandwiches with just one (thin) slice of cheese.
Or bowls of cold, watery custard, and calling it pudding.

Maybe it's the oliebollen or the hagelslag.

Vla. More watery than school-dinner custard.
The first time I encountered it was when I invited some Dutch colleagues over for a meal. They said that they would bring the dessert.
So I fork out around EUR 150 (it was guilders, at the time -- and that doesn't include drinks), and they turn up with a 65-cent carton of vla.
Fortunately, we had some plain chocolate cake, so I cut a few slabs of that, smothered it with the vla, and threw it, covered, into the microwave for five minutes at 50%, which turned it into a "rustic" but perfectly palatable dessert.
They said it was too rich for their tastes.
I never invited them again.

Taking the same shots. Work as advertised.

G'day, mate.
We've been vegetarians for generations based on religious beliefs, and our caste (but for me it's more about personal choice and for good health). I have heard of nobody in the known extended family have such deficiencies.
B12 is plentifully available in dairy products (unless you're vegan - vegetarian means vegan food, but including dairy products and honey). Also, B12 supplementation is very common among vegans and you only need one supplemental pill (500 micrograms) per week.
There are also a few vegans in our family (a couple into their retirement), and they're doing just fine. In fact, they're doing excellent for their age and when compared to their friends.
