Just indications, at least that kind of proof would not hold up in court.

And since you have had problems with their software, that makes you the non-idiot.
So very clear and rational.

Nope. I did not say anything like that. I said that I do not want to be treated like a muggle. If that automatically makes you one, then so be it.

Yes. It's not so smart to play along with 'take it or leave it'. They just will include more and more great ideas into that deal. There is really only one option: Leave it and let them think about what they might have done wrong.
It already worked with Weight, and that's exactly why they went a little overboard with the forced updates to Win 10. They obviously have not learned it yet.

For example, you take your pants exactly as they come. You just deal with how they are. Same thing with your car. You don't complain that the GPS sends data for feedback. You don't complain that the steering is not exactly as you want it, you just deal with it. You buy a banana at the store and if there is a small bruise, you don't take it back. You just deal with it. You "take it" with nearly everything in life. But software seems to get people near violent.
I just don't understand that kind of thinking.

I leave products I don't like and will not pay one cent for something I don't want. If there are alternatives, fine. If not, then let's forget the whole thing, Just keep your junk.
If Mickeysoft (and obviously their fanbois) think that there are no alternatives and that they get away with everything they like, then it's high time to teach them otherwise.
RyanDev wrote: It seems to me that Software is the only thing (or one of a few things maybe) where people think they own it and everything about it. And again you saddle up the horse from the wrong side. I indeed own all those things once I bought then and can use them as I see fit. Software is the only thing everyone wants to disown me of, even that which I write myself.

I have to just add here that there are few things I enjoy more than watching win server 2012 R2 installation desperately trying to automatically update an air-gapped server.
Yes, you can turn off automatic updates, but it still begs -- and whenever you update from a Pope-blessed, Hellfire-purified memory stick, it begs and pleads to be switched back on again.
I never knew I had any sadism in me, until windows turned to cr@p.

It's 6 years I'm away from any Linux distro, first by necessity (I was in a place with no Internet and a brand new laptop nor the installation discs) then because with win7 I haven't felt the need of Linux. My experience with linux comprise Mandrake 8.1 and 9, Debian 4, 5 and 6, Slackware 10 and 11, Suse notSureWhich it hink 9, Red Hat 8, a bunch of Ubuntu and several others I forgot.
In each and every of these versions, with three different computers I had something refusing to work - and I'm perfectly capable of recompiling a kernel and hacking my way through the configuration files. At first it was X11 which refused to start, then I couldn't activate the HyperThreading and insert a CD-ROM - it kernel panicked, then other problems I forgot, Ubuntu supported a lot more drivers than Debian but a lot less developing tools and merging package repository ended up with an unusable unstable system.
Even with a lot of practice and knowledge there wasn't anything more than the bare minimum, held together by terrible GUI apparently developed by schizophrenics sociopaths. Hardware is barely supported, printing is hellish, 3D acceleration worked 1 time out of 10 (meaning no support for old games on VMWare). Every FLOSS software is incomplete and incompatible with each other, requiring chains of dozens of softwares to have something done.
I enjoyed my time with Linux, but it is really way too much trouble. Would I host a server on Linux? probably yes, once set it's as stable as stable can be. Would I use it on my workstation? As of now, not. Until MS will mangle Windows enough that it will become more costly and tiring than Linux (and it's going very fast in that direction) I won't.

Yesterday I bought a dirt cheap laptop for 180 EUR. (Acer cloudbook 11) It comes with Windoze10 preinstalled. I have not opened the box yet.
Here is the plan:
I will never boot the thing with that so-called operating system. I will boot from a bootable Ubuntu USB schtick, and install that. Blowing that other barely mentionable thing into oblivion.
To be continued...

I'm actually surprised, but Win10 on the WookieTab works well. (Shock! Horror! Heresy!)
Probably, it's having touch as well as mouse that does it (and avoiding Metro apps).
Mind you, It's quite possible that Win7 would work even better ...

Trying to help a cow-orker with a win10 laptop, I didn't find the old "Find..." tool. Of course the interface is all mangled, then I did the smart thing: keyboard shortcuts are fundamentally unchanged since Win95, so I press Win + F... only to find that now it opens a useless "Facebook Hub". Is that a Pc or is that an elephnating toy?!? No, don't answer...

"Feedback hub", not "FarceBook hub", but no doubt that's coming.
Cartina has taken over all searching, but she's not that good at it ... powered by Bong, you know.
If you are looking for a file then WIN+E and File Explorer will give you a search box on the right hand side.

OriginalGriff wrote: If you are looking for a file then WIN+E and File Explorer will give you a search box on the right hand side. It wasn't working: searching for a piece of filename in a file I had right in front of my eyes didn't yield any result. I wished to try the old search interface which is a bit more reliable, but apparently it worked so it had to be taken away in order to have a uniform system.

The first thing I do when I install 10, is to disable Cortana and pop-up ads. 10 has been humming along very nicely for me for over a year now.

At least if you have to write a business e-mail, the OSK gives you a couple of hundred emojis, so you can keep up a professional image.

I'd like an OSK with a couple of hundred tortures / punishments / deaths for my customer and a part of cow-orkers. That would be an incentive for me to buy win10 - and for the aforementioned to tread carefully.

You can reconfigure the OSK to give you a full "normal" keyboard with no emojiis:
Settings...devices...Typing
Set "Add the standard keyboard layout" to "On"
Open the OSK, and hit the "keyboard button" in the bottom right.
In the popup, select the far right option button.
Now you have ALT, TAB, and a Fn button for function keys.
