1111 men on the dead man's chest
Yo-ho-ho and a bottle of rum
If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack.

The Martian was on TV last week and somehow this quote comes to my mind:
Quote: “I’ve been thinking about laws on Mars. There’s an international treaty saying that no country can lay claim to anything that’s not on Earth. By another treaty if you’re not in any country’s territory, maritime law aplies. So Mars is international waters. Now, NASA is an American non-military organization, it owns the Hab. But the second I walk outside I’m in international waters. So Here’s the cool part. I’m about to leave for the Schiaparelli Crater where I’m going to commandeer the Ares IV lander. Nobody explicitly gave me permission to do this, and they can’t until on board the Ares IV. So I’m going to be taking a craft over in international waters without permission, which by definition… makes me a pirate. Mark Watney: Space Pirate.”

It was a much better film than I thought it was going to be!

I like this variant.[^] It's thick tin foil tape on a roll. It's intended to be used as duct tape on very hot pipes, but I have also seen it used to cover air craft models for an authentic aluminium look. Looks amazing if done carefully and then polished. I use it ro model panels on the helicopter body and then paint over it.

I didn't realize how different his management style was from his predecessors: Fast Company article. Any Microsofties in here that can vouch for the change?

I was wondering what MS would look like with a new "boss" and I'm glad they found someone completely different. MS seems better off and we as users could stand to gain improvements as well.
Good read, thanks for this.

I'm a 'softie. I joined the company after Nadella took the helm, but it was also after I had been in the industry (as a field or systems engineer, not developer) for a long time. While we undoubtedly still have some areas where we can be better, I can say without a moment's hesitation that this is the most positive, supportive, incredibly awesome place to work I've ever run across. It took me 20 years to find it, but I finally feel like I have a career, not just a job. When we succeed, we all share in the success. When we do less than our best, no one hesitates to step up and see how we can help out. We're of course encouraged to constantly improve our own personal success, but it's always measured through the lens of how we encouraged or built upon the success of others. Without that teamwork context, your own growth is literally counted less. It's refreshing and has forced me to rethink some long-ingrained habits.
I spent the bulk of my career reading about the previous culture here, MiniMSFT, the Justice Department cases, all of it. I walked in here with eyes open. Kool-Aid or not, this does NOT feel like that to me. For me, it's a great place to be.

Hackers compromised free CCleaner software, Avast's Piriform says[^]
Quote: It said the server was closed down on Sept. 15 "before any known harm was done". Before any known harm was done? Are you serious?
CCleaner is one of my favorites! Fortunately I am running version 5.34.XXX which is later then the compromised version 5.33.

I'm considering opening a Bar / Casino called "Moderation".
That way, I get free advertising: "Drink in Moderation!" "Gamble in Moderation!"
Heck, "Everything in Moderation" ...

... including moderation? Or will you have that in excess?
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, weighing all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?
