Since I have read 'The Name of the Wind' I know that you can get power over something if you know its true name. For the Skyrim fans: The hero in that book tries to conceal his identity by pretending to be an innkeeper and explaining that he used to be an adventurer, but then took an arrow in the knee. I wonder which one is the original and which one the easter egg.
Anyway, I just saw an ad at the top of the page: AdMob by Google. Ok, I know who 'the mob' is and I applaud Google's honesty, still I don't think the name is well chosen.

I used to ask this same question, just like you, but then I took an arrow in the kneee.

Did you become an inkeeper or a guard in Whiterun after that?

Nah, I have troubles finding free time to progress one toon through warcraft, but I did watch my daughter playing Skyrim sometimes.

The scary thing is that all guards in Whiterun used to be adventurers who had to retire after taking an arrow in the knee. Is that some sort of requirement for getting the job as a guard?

Personally I like the urban myth that 'taking an arrow in the knee' is a metaphor for getting married. It neatly explains why they had to settle down and get job close to home.

Ok. Remind me not to get married in Skyrim. I don't want to play a guard.

Google says the book came out in 2007 and Skyrim in 2011. I know which way I'm going to guess assuming it's not independent creation.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, weighing all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

Thanks for pointing me to another book series.
I will point a couple of series to you from the last ones I enjoyed:
* Monster Hunter International, by Larry Correia (actually this one be very appealing to
@John-Simmons-outlaw-programmer also due to the extensive gun porn featured and the testosterone-laden writing). The spin offs written by John Ringo are also as good, even snarkier and rated M for manliness.
* The Dresden Files, by Jim Butcher. I never liked urban fantasy... until I read The Dresden Files. Noir atmospheres, intelligent magic depiction, snark, engaging storylines and superbly written characters.
* Codex Alera, by Jim Butcher. The first book is the toughest to read but it's six books of extreme character developement, magic, war and well written intrigues.

... but Herself has managed it!
No matter what she does, the onscreen "controls" for her favourite jigsaw puzzle game are faintly visible in all apps.
That'll be fun - the cure is apparently to put a bright white display on for "an extended period", which means she won't be able to use it ...
