'Late' is the name of your dog, child, partner?

Why worry about being late? Make up for it at the other end of the day.
If you get in an hour late (+1 hour) make up by leaving an hour early (-1 hour). 1 + -1 = 0

I am in the middle of changing positions and companies; taking a week of vacation.
So... did I get up late? No.. I was up at 4:30, stoke the fire, start the coffee.
Then, meet a group for an outdoor workout session at 5:15 - aerobic exercise, running, lifted concrete blocks... back home about 6:15 to have coffee with my wife.
Good start to the day; soon, I will be cutting, splitting, stacking firewood - great way to spend vacation time!

It has been my habit to meet the group Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday morning; but Saturday starts at 7:00. I enjoy the exercise and fellowship, and then the coffee to warm me up later.
As far as cutting wood, it is my exercise of choice; something I've done my entire life and absolutely enjoy... followed again by coffee.

I often wake before my alarm goes off. Then I have to stay awake in order to hit snooze when it does.

Isn't this the job you got after a very long time of looking for one? Not sure.
Anyhow, I suggest you rethink your "waking up" strategy, as this type of stuff can get you canned from a job real quick - at least where I work.
Good luck.

Power cut had taken mains based alarms out, battery backups hadn't really been set this year. Thankfully were flex time.

I have to drop the car in to get a CV gaiter changed at 08:30, so I'm not sure if I'll post it early or late yet.
If I'd remembered, I wouldn't have answered - but I didn't notice until I went to add a reminder to Google Calendar.

So we can expect a car based CC tomorrow then?

Yes. The answer is "MERCEDES" - but don't tell anyone.

I was thinking more along the lines of the clue being "How much!!!!"

Nah, the garage is fairly decent. Last time they did one (on my previous Merc) it cast £45 including labour and parts. May cost a bit more for this one, as it's developed a rattle which sounds like a broken exhaust bracket - and it's far too low to the ground for me to get under and look!

Must have been one of those split glue on ones.
If not it costs hundreds, as the CV has to be pulled off the shaft, which means the suspension has to be partly dismantled.
