Having looked at the question and Dave`s replies I have to say he is right and you are wrong: you showed no sign of understanding - or even trying to understand - what he was very patiently trying to explain to you. And accusing him of trolling when he didn't give you the answer you wanted because you don't understand what he is telling you isn't going to help you.

I have read the thread where he says he got help in the other forum, but I don't understand what he wants yet.

I had a look at that too. It looks like a completely different question.
Also, starting that thread with that aggressive opening comment seems like a great way to lose friends and alienate people.

But I still don't really understand what / why is he trying.

From what I could figure out from here and the other post linked to, he was trying to save the binary string "10000000000000" as something other than a string, in 8 bytes, as a double.
Look over both threads and see where he finally says anything that resembles that.

I think (picking through the bones) what he wanted was to save some data to a file. He had some integer and floating point values that he wanted to save in a ".bin" file. All that stuff about converting to and from binary was, as you rightly pointed out, down to the fact that he did not understand the basics. Frankly, I thought you were very patient.

Cable went down last night. Was still down this morning. Called Comcast, said "they are working on it. Approximate up time 0958. For more information, go to comcast.com". Huh?
If you can keep your head while those about you are losing theirs, perhaps you don't understand the situation.
