Not sure how they get this information but I know a couple hundred of programmers and not a single one of them uses VB if they have a choice. Not one. 99% of them don't use it at all. E.g. no one is forcing them to use it nor they are unlucky enough to have to deal with legacy code.

It's great when everything is working, but let a hurricane take out your isp. It would help if they were more forthcoming about the damage and guestimated downtime. While these are not business critical apps, I still have to keep the affected clients informed and/or take other steps to get those apps working on a virtual server. (pita!) unfortunately I don't have a clue on the expected repair/recovery datetime.
That said, we took a pretty big hit with trees and power lines down. We were without power for 2.5 days. Our rental house took a large pine across the roof and has structural damage...meeting with insurance adjuster tomorrow. My house just lost some shingles and a piece of siding...out again today picking up debris.
I feel for those who had more substantial damage and are still without power. I salute the utility workers, first responders, and especially the volunteer disaster relief teams. My dad led a chainsaw team for many years, last deployed to Texas last year just a few months before losing the battle with cancer.
Thoughts going out to other cpians affected by Michael. (the hurricane)
Edit: My internet came back up Sunday afternoon so problem resolved. The wife and I spent the day taking a generator/gas/ice/food/tarps to family in one of the hardest hit areas. They are looking at probably more than a week until power is back. The destruction is unreal. I've seen my share of tornado and hurricane damage, but this is at another level.

I guess you were lucky to have only material damage, maybe a hosting provider in the Netherlands or somewhere else in Europe would be a safer bet, the weather here is not so extreme (yet)

My first thought was Michael (@michael-martin, the CPian) as I'm sure many CPians have been affected by him
Good luck getting everything working again.

It's 10 minutes into the 20th Anniversary of my little sisters death. Technically Melanoma kicked her arse 18:43 hours from now.
Some people, recently have told me I should get over shite and not hold on to stuff for so long. They can suck me big long fat one.
We butted heads like mountain goats and I hated her at times like nothing else but faarrrkkkk me sideways with a Giraffe I miss her unbelievably.
I'm off later today to an Irih Club and will drink myself into a stupor. Poor sad scared to drink poofs, don't want to hear your AA shite, just slit your throats and move on.
I may or may not have been drinking this Saturday night.

We all heal at different rates, old friend. This Dec 19 will be the 39th anniversary of burying my little brother. He was murdered by a drunk driver while on his way from Christmas shopping to church. Christmas has never since been a cause for celebration, but I don't go out boozing in his memory anymore. Each senseless death changes us some, even though the raw pain and rage eventually fade.

I enjoy beer or wine too, except when I have to drive then it's mostly alcohol-free beer.

If you read it right it is just a great excuse to go out and get pissed - why we need to know is a little baffling but then some do treat the forum like FB.
