One made me smile, one the supervising adults at the meeting, speaks poor English (not the Viking PM, She is Brazilian) and quite scary... the take it off line statement to her means speed up

I wasn't convinced it was right but it was a leaper because of the wanton diet part - unsure about the quarter part

Well the quarter part must mean "only use one of these 4 words" in which "quick" = "fast", but unless "wanton" is part of the definition I would have counted "the quick and secure wanton" as five words?
Basically, I am saying I don't really know what "wanton" means!

Use a dictionary!
One quarter of:
the quick FAST, as in "fast as light"
and secure, FAST, as in "stuck fast"
wanton FAST, as in "fast woman"
diet FAST, as in "on a fast until Lent"

Yeah, I googled it... still didn't help me. I guess because I was thinking "quarter" meant one of, and you had already used quick = fast so I just discarded the association. I would never have got fast from "secure" though, so wouldn't have got the "4 definitions" approach you went for.
All good knowledge for my clue writing career though!

I guess that's the problem with short answers, in that it's usually fairly simple to just find the synonym for the definition part without having to even consider or understand the rest of the clue.

For us Americans, they are 37 years old. They came to North America in 1981. I had no idea they were a thing before that. Interesting story.

1981? I think I saw that stuff years before that. 1978, maybe.
