The Internet is NEW compared to that stuff.
The Web is even newer than the Internet.
And, Twitter, is even newer than the Web.

But in that time, aircraft went from the Wright brothers to passenger jets.
And our spacecraft are still at the Charles Lindbergh stage ...

And the Internet has gone from web pages hand-crafted by users to...Facebook.
But, we may as well laugh.

Not by that much (well, when compared to spacecraft). Isn't the generally accepted date somewhere around '69?

91-92 or so.

If only we really had found and reverse engineered alien spacecraft in 1947 (Roswell) - we'd be much farther out there... maybe...

Dunno if reverse engineering a crashed spacecraft really helps a lot, except if building one that crashes as well Maybe that's why we're not that far with these things, we just kept reverse engineering crashed alien crafts without trying to alter out the bugs present in their design (there must be bugs - they crashed onto earth, after all).

AWS lambdas can now run for 15 minutes (previously maxed out at 5 mins), so there's that.

Herself has just talked herself into Kebab and Beer Night one night this week!
I was remarkably difficult to persuade into this, I have to say. I must have resisted and argued for ... ooo ... no, I didn't. Not even slightly.
Sometimes, even though you know it's evil; it's bad for you; it's fat, and salt, and gawd knows what meat; the food equivelant of VB; you just gotta have one ... and it's been so long. YES!

What you have to add into the equation is that beer is very good fro the digestion, and helps "streamline" the process.
Therefore, the kebab doesn't hang around long enough to become a problem.
You can't argue with the laws of nature.

Kebab + Beer = Heaven!
You really are drinking for "evil" now

Just avoid a Kebab sober, tried one stone cold sober. Never again...

Depends where you get it from! A good one works sober (and is easier to eat than when drunk).
Lamb shish, chicken shish, kofte shish, and lamb doner with pitta, coleslaw, and seriously hot chilli sauce. Yum!

That started me down the rabbit hole.
So, will the Kilogram actually weigh a different value in relation to the pound then?
Not much info out there and I'm totally confused. I had committed to memory that there are about 2.2 lbs in 1 kilo so I guess that will be wasted memory space.

raddevus wrote: . I had committed to memory that there are about 2.2 lbs in 1 kilo That's always been a problem with converting a country from one unit to another.
When you buy something it has a size - period. Why do you need to convert it? After all, a 750ml bottle of Single Malt Scotch is very close to a fifth (of a gallon). Why do you need to convert it all all, though? As the say, but here it actually applies "It Is What It Is". Trying to get people to memorize long list of conversions was doomed from the start.

The imperial system is not decimal. There are 36 inches in a yard, 12 inches in a foot, 16 ounces in a pound. It's very arbitrary. Even it's creators saw it's a bad idea and switched to metric. The US is still clinching to the old for some inexplicable reason.

It the metric system that's arbitrary. Based on ten's ? Lousy factor retinue.
The Imperial System has an an entire system of weights based on base 2 - awaiting the computer era.
16oz = 2^4 ozs
Qt = 2^5
Cup = 2^3
Gallon = 2^7
Look at all the factors a yard has!
It's time you get rid of system that's designed only for people who must count on their fingers (of French origin if I'm correct). Now THAT is arbitrary.

OriginalGriff wrote: What about the acre? Hectare? Chain? You've clearly proven my point about the mess you have! A hectare is metric.[^]
Those sound very "english" - Furlong time, now, they've made a mess of things (like two flavors of gallon). They also abandoned their system - but didn't finish the job. You can discuss it over a Pint.
