Really? That was hard!
I did think that the definition wasn't going to be the "liar" part, but as I am off work on Monday I didn't put much effort in trying to solve it... though I doubt I would have ever got that one anyway.
That's the third unsolved one this week! I think we are all getting too mean

Which muppet at Microsoft decided to call RelWithDebInfo that? The abbreviation for Debug is Dbg, always has been, always will. And NOT Deb!

Why even shorten it at all? It's not like "debug" is a long word...

Because RelWithDebInfo is a long word.

It's not in my dictionary, not even in pencil in the margins ...

But isn't the whole point in naming conversions to be informative and useful?
When I first read your post, I thought you were providing us information about your relationship with Deborah..
I think "ReleaseWithDebugInformation" is perfectly fine, it's not like IDEs make you type the whole thing anyway!
Although I would say "ReleaseWithDebugInfo" would be fine too. "Info" is a common enough abbreviation to not be confusing.
Anyway, I agree with what you are getting at, I also hate inconsistency.

You dont think it is too long to fit in the 'select config' drop list is VS?

Stupid abbreviations are grounds to beat on someone. Spelling errors piss me off even more. Some tools used in the embedded world - their autofill is lacking, shall we say.
I think it's a habit from the past when screens were small and/or used languages limiting variables to 6 characters. If you're not that old, you have no excuse.

Maybe at first, but after doing it a few times it will start to feel more natural, and you will begin to realise that perhaps you don't need to fit the whole thing in...

I agree, RelWithDebugInfo reads better and doesn't look that much longer to me.

Sorry - that was then[^] - this is now.
In the new production of "Fantasy Island", Tatoo cries out that sound when he finds himself in yet another giant-roach-infested room "De bug! De Bug!"
Now you have good reason to rant.

I agree. My pet peeve is when someone abbreviates Number as No . Yeah, I know its a commonly accepted abbreviation, but I still despise it

Politicians don't have thoughts.
Their aides have thoughts, politicians just spout them. All you'd get with a politician is "Bribe me. bribe me. Please."
