From memory, this can happen when a plugin has a memoryleak.
Then again, I suppose there are a myriad of possible reasons.
I don't touch Firefox any more, my wife is a lot more stable.

I will check but I _never_ run plugins for that kind of reason.
I don't believe I have any plugins.
Thanks very much for the input though.

Yeah, I think you are correct.
I'm running MS Edge and Android Studio with no problems.

It's pretty damned unlikely that a search engine will cause a browser to crash.
A buggy browser, on the other hand...
There are loads of browsers. Search for browser-comparison sites, and pick one that has the features you want.

Yeah, I agree. I thought maybe it was something that FF did internally with that option or something.
It looks like it is totally related to FF & Android Studio 3.2.1 installation.

How is it any less applicable to the lounge than any of the other crap posted here?

If you can keep your head while those about you are losing theirs, perhaps you don't understand the situation.

Spot on.
The credo should be "If you were in a real-life lounge, with colleagues and pals, what would you talk about?"
It's a place to go to talk bollocks and put the world to rights -- so I'm pretty sure that a 7.0 earthquake in someone's home country is something that would be brought up.
And I'm even more sure that I wouldn't ask any programming questions, under such circumstances, so the biggest rule the Lounge has is one that it shouldn't need.

Yeah, I have two brothers and a sister living in Anchorage. Brother 1 says the tv studio he works at had the newsroom flooded and the ceiling fell and all the wall monitors came down, but they were still on the air with emergency power. Brother 2 works at a large warehouse for the tourist trade, much of the stock is on the floor now. Sister had no problems.

I'm at my wit's end with my wife's HP all-in-one that blue-screened earlier this week. I've exhausted all options:
0: auto repair - fails every time
1: 3 different restore points have failed
2: revert to previous version (back to 7 I assume) fails intstantly
3: no boot to safemode...continues to go to auto repair
4: last resort - reset to factory (keeping files) seemed to work...until it hit 26% installing Windows...has been stuck there for about 3 hours now...should I keep waiting?
That's at least half a day's work and nothing to show for it!
In other news, my company's main website was down this morning. I opened a support ticket with the webhost and got a response that the server had hardware issues and is being restored. It should only take 1-2 days before it's back up. (They just migrated me to a new server about 2 months ago!) I wonder if they were going to let customers know, or just let 'em all find out for themselves? It's a shame that I actually depend on that website to be able to conduct business.
I hope the day improves, or maybe I should just leave early today and go buy the wife another computer. Just a parting thought...Maybe MS is doing it's part to drive new PC sales by trashing the old ones with incompatible updates.
Edit: because traffic is slow on the weekend, and I figured you are bored!
The day is not improving...while on a marathon conference call, I get a call on my cell from a local number, so I answer it. It was a robo-call, the one where they tell you they can help with your credit, the one I get at least 2-3 times a week, but typically just hang up on. Well, this time I didn't...I elected to talk to a representative and stated in a very polite way to be taken off of their call list. The guy quickly and calmly responded that 'I should throw my phone out of the window and I would stop receiving their calls'. I calmly thanked him being a prick and hung up.
Now back to the important stuff. The website is still down...check support ticket and note that they have advised that 'the server is up and running, but a bit sluggish'. Check again...nope, not even a ping...a few customers have already called to report slow start times due to the fact that our apps try to 'call home' on startup to see if they need to be updated, or if a support contract is expired...hmm, now seems to be the ideal time to work on that feature.

That seems like a hardware problem to me. Have you checked for bad sectors on the HD lately? Memory would be the next thing to check.

I'm coming to the same conclusion...didn't consider the HDD, but figured any memory issues would be 'addressed' (reported) in the POST. I checked BIOS for a memory test...to no avail.
For my next trick, I'll try reseating the one memory chip and now, running chkdisk.
I have a bad feeling that by now, the OS is completely whacked, so I might as well pull the drive and get the important stuff before getting her a new SSD and fresh OS. This is turning into way more work than I expected...maybe easier to just go get her a new one...early Christmas! (as if)
