Why pay for a command-line that's already there? What does it add that is worth $30?

Might as well make it permanent for all the effect it is having. Just think of the savings over the wage bill!

Anyone affected by the Government shutdown?
Me, it's making me sick watching a bunch of elected officials acting like children!

Luckily DoD has funding, so no. Every other one in the last 10 years though >.>
I feel terrible for the people who aren't getting paid. For those that are pulling the whole "clearly they aren't doing anything on the regular" bit, quite a number of people are still working, and contractually obligated to work, but will not be paid for it until a budget agreement is reached. It sucks.

"Captures Birth".
Can't be terribly exciting if they released some animation for this instead of what the telescope actually captured.
The article doesn't make it clear (to me) whether it "captured" anything visual. I suspect we're talking about columns of numbers. One can only get so much excitement from that.

You're probably right. If I remember right the scientist who helped them render a simulation for Interstellar had a "why of course that's what it would look like" moment after seeing it for the first time. I don't think what it looks like had ever crossed his mind before - he was probably plenty excited by the columns of numbers.

Let's be honest here: only one person ever wants to watch the actual Birth Video - and that's the mother. Everybody else is perfectly happy with an artist's impression ...

Sheesh...that image never even entered my mind, which proves your point, I guess.

Not my impression. When I was a teenager, one "A child is born" movie (so liberal that it would have received an XXX rating in the US was seen by everybody and his cat in our country. A few years ago, the baby that was born was given a broad presentation in one of the weekend magazines, both online and printed versions; he did not have any bad feelings about being the great star in the movie without being asked for his consent ...
