I was ready to kill after two days, and I've been there a month, now, so it's a good job that you complained about the google browser.
I wouldn't fancy your chances if you'd complained about a good one.

What gets me is that they are so incompetent, they don't even put the URL in there ...
Are they doing this just to be annoying?

Maybe they do it just to put up traffic and slowing the site down?

It's a bot. So annoying. We're trying so hard to fight a program which would not have been hard to write.
It is so easy to do harm than try and prevent it on the internet.

Not sure it's a bot - I think it's about three or four individuals at a spam farm. When we had bot attacks last year, they posted a whole load faster than these guys are managing: 100 messages+ per minute per user.

They have flooded multiple forums, "Get-Togethers", "Article writing", "Spam and Abuse watch" and the non-English ones.

I know - and I have the RSI to prove it - but if you look, they are each posting around 20 messages before they move on - and the interval between posts is a "human" one, not "bot speed".

If it were up to me, I'd limit no. accounts that can be created in a short period of time from a single mac address. Also, some "cooldown" functionality can be implemented to post threads before some reputation threshold.

MAC addresses aren't unique, are easily spoofed, and aren't transferred to the internet - they stop at the router when the LAN / WiFi IP address is assigned.
IP addresses don't help either, since they are the point of contact with the internet rather than a specific computer. And easy to "recycle" - just reboot the router - unless they are static addresses, which most aren't.

OriginalGriff wrote: And easy to "recycle" - just reboot the router
Recycling a router takes time - up to a couple of minutes, including connection to the ISP, so forcing them to do that would also help cut down the traffic.
Note also that the ISP's DHCP server is likely to give the router the same IP address, unless the reservation expires at the same time as the router is rebooted.
Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows.

The mac address idea is certainly a good one although I imagine that they are using some sort of vpn in which case I am not sure that would catch them.
