I don't grok the SC, but lovely alternate solution if valid!
Not what was intended though

Google uses Gmail to track a history of things you buy — and it’s hard to delete
“To help you easily view and keep track of your purchases, bookings and subscriptions in one place, we’ve created a private destination that can only be seen by you,” a Google spokesperson told CNBC. “You can delete this information at any time. We don’t use any information from your Gmail messages to serve you ads, and that includes the email receipts and confirmations shown on the Purchase page.”
But there isn’t an easy way to remove all of this. You can delete all the receipts in your Gmail inbox and archived messages. But, if you’re like me, you might save receipts in Gmail in case you need them later for returns. There is no way to delete them from Purchases without also deleting them from Gmail -- when you click on the “Delete” option in Purchases, it simply guides you back to the Gmail message.
Google’s privacy page says that only you can view your purchases. But it says “Information about your orders may also be saved with your activity in other Google services ” and that you can see and delete this information on a separate “My Activity” page.Except you can’t. Google’s activity controls page doesn’t give you any ability to manage the data it stores on Purchases.
So they have advanced parsing systems and dark patterns !
Google Sales-- We need to find out what our gmail users are buying and sell this data.

Gmail is a free service, and you will remember what that means:
Quote: If you're not paying for the product, you are the product.
Somewhere in the T&C's you agreed to when you signed up for an account will be you giving them the rights to do what they want with the data others send you. You did read them before you ticked the box and pressed that button, didn't you?
Do I use Gmail? No - I have my own domain, and provide my own email services. This costs me a small amount every year, as part of the hosting package.
As a result, following the page link to "Purchases" in the article you reference gives me "You don't have any Purchases" and a picture of a cat in a box.

Who hosts your domain Griff ? I use 123-reg but have issues with email - the nameservers change for no apparent reason occassionaly resulting in no email service

Arvixe - but I can't really recommend them, the tech support is terrible (think several days to get back to you) and scheduled tasks can get forgotten (I have a couple running every hour and they often skip 5 or so runs).
Used to be good and cheap, but they got taken over by EIG and "streamlined" into their pathetic service organisation. I may move next time the renewal is due.

They all seem to deteriorate after you've been with them a while, I would like to change from 123-reg but I don't want to lose my domain name ( I don't use it for a website just for email purposes )
