Globalization isn't always easy...
Earlier this year Microsoft changed an image of a woman with a green hat because the green hat apparently indicated prostitution in China or some such.
And then there's the aspirin package that had three images, the first was a man with a headache, in the second picture he took a pill and in the third picture he was happy again.
They shipped to Asia and the Middle East, but didn't sell very well...
Those countries read from right to left

Just like in the case of the green-hat image in China, some people think every other ethnic group made of idiots...
So Chinese people can't spot the difference between an insult and a innocent image, and Cree are so stupid that think Heinz deliberately insulting them...

Exactly! So why all those came and started to patronize them in such a stupid manner?

I'm sure most people won't give a mayo what it means in Cree.

I've got an old book which is full of stories like that, its title is something like "Big business blunders in international marketing". A large section is devoteed to names and terminology. (Other sections discuss e.g. use of colors, the shape/size of containers, the use of humour in the ads etc.) It may be a little outdated now (it came out around 1980), but such stories tend to be rather long-lived, so I guess I will dig it up from the basement tonight!
One example that I rarely see mentioned outside Norway: Honda Fitta was marketed as "small on the outside, roomy inside. For your daily pleasure!" - "Fitta" means "the c**t" in Norwegian, which gives the marketing slogan a slightly unintended interpretation. (The car was soon renamed to Honda Jazz in the Nordic markets.)

Hi Eddy, I am curious to ask what you like about this reading/author; what does the content mean to you.

Well, thanks, but I am confused by what appears to be a reading of a copyrighted work by Terry Pratchett by some grinning manic idiot ... with no mention of a license to do same.
thanks, Bill

Still, youtube hosts it and uses it to generate revenue, and from the intro I learned that it is the 13th book.

Hi, No, I'm not suggesting you report it; it's hard for me to imagine an author of Pratchett's status and popularity (or, his fans) allowing the complete work to be read by Joe Maniac on YouTube ... the work is on Audible as a pay-for [^]. I'm just puzzled how this content has stayed up given the fact YouTube does police IP content.
cheers, Bill

Federal Election day here in Aus. No idea who is in the party, no idea if they even have any policies let alone what they are. But they are not Labor or Liberal (the two parties who are the only real chance of being elected) or one of those Jesus/What ever those other goddy types are or environmental.
I'm expecting my eye patch in the mail shortly.

We have something similar next week. Although we are voting for people to become members of a parliament that we voted to leave, and should have left almost two months ago. If the Pirate Party are standing I may well be tempted.

We have the Monster Raving Loony Party[^] who are probably much the same mob.
They never do that well (except in byelections) but they do tend to come up with some good policies (such as reporting the Welsh Dragon to the monopolies commission as there is only one).

If the Australian Pirate Party is similar to the original one is Sweden then it's a serious party. Pirate Parties have won appreciable shares of the vote in general elections in some countries.
