On the contrary, I think someone needs stronger meds.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, weighing all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

"Make dashboards without IT staff!" - umm, we're pretty much all devs here.
"Journey to the cloud. Meet our experts in the trenches" - umm, why would i go to people stuck in trenches if I'm looking to be in a cloud? That seems kind of counterproductive.
Maybe I'm just easily entertained.

What ads?

I don't block ads on this site because they're unobtrusive, and also I've had issues with them whilst editing articles here.

Well to be honest, I do block them on sites that abuse my browser with them. Many sites are so overrun with ads its almost impossible to use them without a blocker.

I've had some sites where i was a regular eventually go that route. I did eventually move on.

I use uBlock, and it's defaulted to "block all". And it gives you a count of how many it blocks...
If I use a site more than a couple of times, and the count is small enough, it gets added to the whitelist, like CP is.
If the number if too high - and I've seen 40 or so on some sites - I'll just bugger off and not go back. Very little on t'interwebs is so unique that I can't find what I want on a less greedy / more user friendly site.

That's true. There have been times when I've become a regular at a site though and later they add a bunch of ads. Like I told ZD, I eventually move on in those cases.
Some sites like Mediaite will actually crash your browser with all of its ads, and they have a blocker detector.
I never visit.

uBlock does not work for Edge, does it? I use the hosts file and it works just fine.

The only thing that works for Edge is downloading Chrome or FireFox ... it doesn't even read EPUB files anymore, and that is the only thing it did at all well!

I use Firefox but had to revert to Edge to correctly print articles on, uh, this website. I think the problem[^] is being worked. As for Chrome, I consider Google evil and would never install it.

I posted that from work, and I don't see ads on CP at work because... well, I don't know why. I can't install software of any kind. It's a DoD system, so they may be doing something.
At home, I'm running PiHole DNS, which blocks ads based on their URL. It updates itself automatically every so often.
I'm not going to apologize for not wanting to see ads.

honey the codewitch wrote: "Make dashboards without IT staff!" - umm, we're pretty much all devs here. Which is probably a good audience, to a manager that has to spend his advertisement budget. Ads are the best way to burn money, and the best thing is it doesn't even have to have a positive ROI - as it also puts out your name, your brand, or grows your market.
Using an ever-growing hosts-file; I don't care if the ads are unobtrusive. It is showing content from third-parties and can be abused.

I suppose, but I'm not that concerned.
It can't be worse than that IE6 exploit wherein you could inject executable code into a JPG file header and run it in IE's address space.
A banner campaign that could nuke your PC without scripting. Pretty near impossible to disable.

honey the codewitch wrote: It can't be worse than that IE6 exploit So, explain me how that is technically impossible, and how that makes you feel safer?
honey the codewitch wrote: A banner campaign that could nuke your PC without scripting. Pretty near impossible to disable. No banner campaigns being loaded here, regardless of browser. Domains serving ads are blocked on the system level, so it works with all browsers, and even on my Kubuntu machine. A small C# app synchronizes them; GETting the latest file on a webserver and adding the last local modification date to that header. If the server replies "not modified[^]", the file isn't even downloaded, making the impact on the system very low. Plus I don't spend bandwidth (which is cheap nowadays, granted) or computing power on downloading and displaying ads (and/or malware).
It matters not how strait the browser, how charged with malware the ads,
I'm the master of my machine, I am the captain of my CPU.
