Yeah I guess they do. I only recently added this site to be allowed to show ads after Griff mentioned it the other week. Before that I hadn't even thought about it as my ad blocker blocks everything as default.
Maybe CP should implement a "please don't block us" feature. It could even be unobtrusive and simply be a message that shows in the same space (and dimensions) that the adverts currently show.
Personally I have always though that the advert industry is one of the biggest cons in the world. Problem is, if we all admitted it then it would probably crash our economies.

Ultimately the cost of advertising is rolled into the cost of the items.
Furthermore, take for example "drug" advertisements. They've caused problem with patients basically demanding the newest (and often deadliest and amazingly expensive) drug for their real or perceived condition. I take one drug that, expensive as it was, my prescription plan didn't blink at the cost. Originally. Then the advert's started and now I need annual ore-authorization for it.*
One can go on and on with similar examples. It's really a matter of paying up front or paying indirectly.
* it really is the advert's fault. At the time I started this medication, one that was 20x cheaper did require per-authorization for more than the initial prescription (long-term use). It was heavily touted on TV.

Exactly. I can only speak about the soapbox, but even if it had gone down, would anyone really miss that traffic...?

My traffic has gone way down, but I'm sure no one misses it.
The Lounge is usually very boring especially since it has become Codewitches facebook feed (no offense to honey). The few times someone does try to have a serious and good discussion in the forum there are more nonsense replies than good ones.
There isn't much value to CP. Even the people asking questions are lousy at asking questions but that's about the most I do here anymore (trying to answer questions.)

I come to Lounge first thing in the morning for CCC and eager to see the "thoughts of the day" by @OriginalGriff and occasional "Get my Coat" Jokes.

I agree but this has reduced dramatically, so its ok.

For me the valuable part is the articles, Insider news and of course the competition which makes me realize that the "new" technology is beyond me and so I should work hard in my current job so I can retire peacefully without the need to learn the "new" cool trick

And I wish this was a joke, but it isn't
Cat has been unwell for a week, eating bad and not having energy.
The vet took some photo's and it's either an inflammation or a tumor
I can give her some antibiotics, but pills are pretty much impossible with Nika so that would have to be at least three trips to the vet every two weeks and hope it goes away.
The other option is to get a scan and be sure if it's the one or the other.
In case of a tumor they have to do another check to see if it's treatable.
I'm going for the scan and hoping for the best.
If they can scan next week the chances of it being treatable, if it's a tumor, are higher than after the six weeks of antibiotics.
I very much hope it's just an inflammation caused by her chronic sneezing disease.
Unfortunately, all I can do is wait
To end with a joke... Would they do a CAT scan or a PET scan?

They do an NMR - No Mouse Required.
Hope everything turns out OK.

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope for the best for your cat. I lost my maine coon to cancer so I understand. They're family.

Nika and I eat and sleep together.
When she's in a lazy mood and doesn't sit with me I really miss her.
That's always now (had to carry her to bed yesterday while I usually can't carry her at all)

First time I can think of that I really hoping a cat gets an inflammation ...
Good luck to you and your little friend.

I know how it feels as I lost some cats too, and although I always say "no new cats" it's hard to resist them.
So now we have two cats again (Maine Coon).

They do leave a very large "cat-shaped hole" in a home, don't they?

They sure know how to keep you busy, I'm feeling like the doorman as they expect me to open the backdoor all the time. They have cat flaps, but they prefer the "door service"
|
|
|
|
|
Oh, I know that one!
My office is beside the front door, and Dij goes out the catflap, but won't come back in that way (unless a chicken carcass is being stripped). So if it's raining, he goes out, hurtles round the building and bangs on my window until I open the door and let him in. And dry him or he rolls his wet fur all over the desk, keyboard, books, paperwork, ... When he's dried to his satisfaction (and if I try to stop early my ankles get swiped at) he goes back out the catflap and the cycle repeats.
Mind you it does make his fur really smooth and soft!
