she wants to fight for me to get a new position (which I will take if as described)
- she didn't share my resig letter or this move idea yet coz with all the snot hitting the fan mgmt got other things hitting them (not just staff issues, for eg. getting stung by new IMEX restrictions...)

I doubt it. There is very little intelligence to be found in government, artificial or otherwise.

Impossible, even in small communities as long as we still require things like supermarkets.

We are doing it. People wait outside the supermarkt with prudential distance from each other. In the supermarkt are 5 to 8 people buying and then FIFO. One get out, one is allowed to get in.

the purpose for everything shutting down.
1. Quarantine, for example, is meant to contain a virus. Well that effort was lost long ago. There is no such thing as containing this virus.
2. I have seen lots of people say that it is to slow down the demand on hospitals. However, hospitals can't do much to treat corona virus, it's just a strong flu. So, from what I have read, the treatment from hospitals is administer fluids or oxygen in extreme cases. I can drink fluids at home. Do regular people go to the hospital when they get the flu? I never have. I don't get it often but when I have I stay home, hydrate, and ride it out. So, it seems like most people should not be going to the hospital anyway so a "run" on the hospitals doesn't seem like a valid reason for shutting things down.
3. I have seen numbers that indicate that for every one case we do know about there are 10-100 others that we don't know about, which also means that there are many more exposed but not infected. That means that most everyone has likely already been exposed to the virus so shutting everything down won't do anything. Most people have been exposed and a small percent become infected and another small percent turn serious.
4. This virus will always be with us, it will not be eradicated. So, what happens when everything goes back to normal? We'll have another round of outbreaks because everyone is hiding from it. However, if indeed nearly everyone has already been exposed then we won't have another outbreak but also proves that shutting things down has no actual purpose.
I feel like I must be missing something and that the world has gone mad. However, it's possible I have gone mad. Can anyone give valid reasons for what is happening?

There are X number of beds available for critical care in a hospital. This care enables people who otherwise might die to have a chance. As the virus spreads it will affect Y people who will need critical care. This value Y changes over time, and if Y > X then the hospitals can't cope. Y is dependent on how fast the virus spreads. Slow it down and we keep Y < X.
That's all it is. It's not about stopping the spread. It's about giving those most at risk a chance to get treatment at a hospital so complications from the virus can be treated. Keep them alive long enough, the body ditches the virus, the body recovers, one less fatality.
Having said that, every day there is new news on treatments being tested that are actively treating the virus, and testing of vaccines has already begun.
cheers

Some people will refuse to see it because it is expressed logically, in a reasoned, methodical fashion. They can't rationalize it through whatever cultural reality filter they were raised on, so they reject it.

fair enough.
Still, there are people that voluntarily don't want to understand because it doesn't fit their agenda (and I know a couple of those, it is impossible to have a conversation with them about many topics)

Chris Maunder wrote: 's not about stopping the spread. It's about giving those most at risk a chance to get treatment at a hospital That makes some sense but the numbers don't seem to match. If the hospitals were only admitting those that need treatment (which there isn't much treatment available anyway) it doesn't seem like they'd be running out of beds. If that is true, all of our hospital systems are in pretty bad shape. And when a much worse virus happens in the future, then what?
Plus the treatments that are available at the hospital can also be done in the home. The US, at least, has tons of home health care workers. If hospitals are being overrun maybe they need to do in-home care.

It's not about physical beds. There are plenty of those.
It's about breathing machines, ventilators or respirators.

But in seriousness, if that is indeed the case then this virus has exposed a massive flaw in the entire world's healthcare system. Because the next time we have a pandemic, it will not be a strong flu, it will likely be something much worse.

The healthcare systems are dimensioned for normality, or in some cases for maximum profit.
ZurdoDev wrote: Because the next time we have a pandemic, it will not be a strong flu, it will likely be something much worse.
Actually, the much worse has already happened, it was called SARS, but that killed so many people that it didn't have time to infect new victims, and was therefore much easier to contain.
BTW, for some fun you can look up "honeycomb lung"

Inflammation is a bodily function to reduce spreading of virus or bacteria virus (amongst others).
They've tried it, but anti inflammatory medicine tends to kill the patients instead.
