In Word you can only store 2 bytes. That is why I use Writer.

What? I'm pretty sure AOL keeps prompting me to install it.
|
|
|
|

Are you installing AOL from your CDs from 2004?

No, from the 3.5 inch floppy.
The difficult we do right away...
...the impossible takes slightly longer.

Don't laugh at AOL! The free floppies were great!
I had a stack of 3.5" floppies roughly 24" high! I didn't buy floppies from ~1994 until floppies went the way of the dodo bird ...

Speaking of floppys - isn't it about time to change the save icon from a floppy to something else?

From the article:
This update is currently not available in Windows Server Update Service (WSUS). It will be made available in early 2021.
That's one update I'll be more than happy to make an exception for and take the extra steps to obtain manually.

I foresee a coming opportunity for programmers to replace all the school system tools (and probably more than a few "enterprise business" apps) that still require flash to work... Might rival some of the Y2k efforts, just after the event rather than before.

OriginalGriff wrote: several orders of magnitude Hmmm, if that is a hint then I would interpret that as 'something much larger'.
Anyway this is what I was thinking when I posted:
enter = insertion indicator?
software = app
county please = s hire
deep blue = sapphire
As you can see the 'please' didn't really fit.
|
|
|
|
|
The "please" was just polite - it's so rude to tell people to "Enter" when a "enter please" is available!
SAPPHIRE is right, but #0F52BA[^] is "Denim", "Sapphire" is #00217A[^], several orders of magnitude away!

I should have guessed that there would be nothing standard that involved CSS ...

OriginalGriff wrote: nothing standard that involved CSS Yeah, I checked and there are 147 colors listed in the latest CSS3 specification dated 19 June 2018. I can confirm that I don't see Sapphire listed.

Useful site (especially for us colour-blind developers, when we need shades and tints of a colour). But there is a hint here: scroll down and the page shows hints and shades of the colour (with RGB values) which wouldn't really work for an officially named colour...
BUT more importantly, this changes the definition of the CCC OTD (by setting a precedent); if it can now include symbols and numerals in the answer, it's no longer a crossword, surely? Updated - I see the answer is actually just the word "sapphire" (8 characters), not the hex string originally suggested.

Thanks David, wasn't aware of those. I will experiment with them. For me as a developer (though I am always clear I am NOT a designer!) I sometimes need to implement "themes" based on a client's existing corporate colours. Trying to create tints and shades can be a problem (I've not attempted to do it scientifically using calculated RGB values) but the site referred to looks to have done a lot of the hard work for me.

It would be even more useful if people stopped using colours that aren't 'real'. The world would be a much better place if everyone accepted that: purple is just a shade of blue; orange is yellow; and brown is green.
And, even better..... whenever I mention that I'm colour blind: stop asking: "What colour is this/that?". What is wrong with people?

My father had monochromacy - he couldn't see colours at all apparently.
It certainly added a new terror to his night driving when approaching traffic lights.
